Any car can be stolen--let's not forget that.

I just read about it, and I'm not too sure how it works. It sounds like after your car gets jacked, the thief can drive a short distance, but it eventually sets off the car's horn and lights while killing the engine, so the thief is stuck in an attention-getting car while not being able to drive away. The owner can go back to the car and enter the PIN number to deactive the system.

What I don't get is how it is activated in the first place, since it doesn't explain it.

^^^ that's kind of how it works, yea. True that if it's towed away, no alam system is going to save it. Get a GPS recovery system if that's a problem

It's a security/convenience/vehicle self recovery anti carjacking system. It costs a bit more for the installation since it has a *lot* of things to integrate into, but its pretty badass.

It's always active. To drive the car, you need to enter a PIN code. If you open and close a door when the motor is on, then drive off,(like in a carjacking) you'll need to re-enter the PIN. The PIN lets the alarm know that you are an authorized driver. Without that PIN code, you car can't be driven off even if they steal your keys.

I figured it was something like that, but it just sounds so involving. While you can't really put a price on safety and protection, it would be too much of a pain in the ass to deal with, especially if you're in a hurry and you happen to get in your car, start it, then realize you left your cell phone inside your house, run in, get your phone, run out, get in the car and try to drive off and happen to forget that you need to punch your PIN in. Then your car suddenly shuts down in the middle of the road (safety hazard for you and everyone else driving around) and you look like a schmuck in this blaring car, even if for just a few seconds.

I'd rather just keep my doors locked, look twice before getting into my car and be cautious at all times... kind of like what you're supposed to do. Besides, there's a reason why I know how to fight... and it wasn't for aesthetics or bragging rights either.

But I guess if I lived deep in the hood, then that's a different story.

It can be involving, but there's always a trade-off. It'll give you a couple of chirps to remind you if you forget.

I know that it was recovered, but the last thing you said answered what I was asking since I didn't see any new posts about him having acquired a replacement. Thanks.
