I just looked up the tires for the 2008 Fit Sport (15")

America's Tire Store wants $60 per tire for the TPMS rebuild... what the heck???

Is that normal???

I think they put new sensors in the rims or change the batteries.

Are they shipping you new tires on new rims mail-order? Then they'll have to include new TPMS. Otherwise they should be able to use your existing TPMS, if they're just putting new tires on your existing wheels. Unless they're convinced they will break your TPMS when removing the old tires, in which case maybe you should consider a different tire shop.

 

Went in and talked to them. Got TPMS rebuild for $16 total

New tires are nice: Yokohama YK580

All the "rebuild" is: replacing the mounting gasket, the shrader valve and the plastic dust cap.
Total waste of money in my opinion.
Any shop that knows what it is doing; can remove the old tires, and install the new tires with out damaging the TPMS sensors.
One point though, the batteries in the TPMS sensors are not replaceable, and normally only last 4 to 5 years.
If your sensors are older than 5 years, I would suggest you consider having new ones installed when you change your tires.
That will save you having to have a tire dismounted, remounted and ballanced 6 months down the road.
The dismounting, remounting and ballancing costs almost as much as a new TMPS sensor.
Do not ask me how I know this :>))

 

I think they just want to charge you to reset them once your new tires are installed. They don't need to be rebuilt. Is your TPMS light on now?

I don't like that tire place either because they rip people off. I remember for 4 tires installed they wanted like 600 bucks and my prelude didn't have a TPMS. Then I asked how much for just the tires no install and they said 240. Each tire was only 60 bucks. That place sucks. I just bought the tires and had my friend install them free. Usually a tire place charges like 45 bucks for installation of all 4 tires.

fuck the TPMS light. I had that thing on all summer long and all I did was mount my scan gauge in front of it so I dint have to see the damn light. I can check my own tire pressure thank you very much and I dont need no stupid dummy light telling me I need to check them

I have had nothing but good experiences with America's Tire. (The TPMS price on the website of $240 scared me though) They have repaired and rotated my tires for free even though I didn't buy them there. After that, they won my business. Great service and knowledge imho. I think part of their price upcharge may be free lifetime rotation and balancing... dunno

I happily pay extra for quality service and products when it comes to tires.

The other area I gladly pay extra for quality is oil (which I change myself). The two hardest working parts of the car in my opinion are the oil and the tires. Therefore I try to buy carefully.

 

Me too. All I ever put on my car is quality stuff. Mobil 1 all the time since I bought my car.

 

go to costco and see how much they sell it for. ive seen ppl buy them when they buy their new tires but i wouldnt know how much they cost. i dont deal with sales. i just dismount, disassemble, install, balance and mount. but im sure its varies per car. i know they're not cheap tho. my manager always tells us when the car has tpms cause if they break, we have to replace them and he says its not cheap.

 

When I got my tires replaced, they tried to charge me $150 to replace the sensors because they broke them because they didn't know my car had them.

I replied like this:

Me: "What year is my car?"
Tire dude: "Uh, a 2008?"
Me: "Ok, you are a tire shop. You of all people should know that all 2008 and newer cars have TPMS and it doesn't matter any way. If you broke them, you should replace them."
Tire dude: "Are you sure all 2008's have them? Lemme just go get my manager"

Manager came back and said I was right and they should have known better bcuz its a 2008. They took the charge off.

 

Sounds to me like they included the cost of new TPMS sensors in your purchase. If you are getting new rims then they would want to do that if they are mounting them, too. Locally, I take my vehicles to Sam's for mount and balance. The lady that I deal with there does an excellent job, and I get lifetime balance and rotation on my schedule.

I'm curious about the techs not realizing a car has TPMS. How does one miss the fact that the valve stems are SCREW IN and not rubber?
