GD Fit--Parking Brake sticking/stuck? Help!

Hey guys...

So a friend of mine has a GD Fit and has recently had problems with her parking brake engaging without the lever up. She doesn't think it's actually "braking" but the beeping and the dash light is coming on.

She says if she moves and holds the park/e-brake handle, it will stop for a while but then start back up and she has to find a different position.

Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas if this is a service bulletin or anything that Honda would look at outside of warranty without mucho $$?

Or has anyone seen anything similar?

I'm not there to take the console out to look at it and I am not sure she feels confident enough to do it herself, but obviously this is a somewhat debilitating problem for the poor fit.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There is an adjustment nut in the console on the GE. Maybe that or one of the cables is damaged.

If the brakes are not engaging it could be a faulty sensor in the console.

Break? Come on Teach - lol

We are bitchy this morning or rather all day. I walk two miles everyday. Then I spell real good.

Hahaha I spell great all the time, not matter what my day's been like.

I know someone who had a similar problem before, on a different car though. The problem was with the sensor - the parking brake wasn't really engaged even though the sensor said it was. Could be the same thing?

Is the sensor in the handle or in the brake?

Hey there bro, I'm at my parents house in the woods and my car is forever away and it's pouring outside, so suck it. I'm not going for the manual.

Anyways, thanks for the help everyone. Even though I apparently suck at life this week, eh Bill?

Yeah we're out. Thank goodness. I was dying. I just hope I don't pack on the pounds during this break.

I'm going out of town also and I always gain weight when I do... Damned carbohydrates are to me like heroin is to a junkie...Maybe the weather will be nice and you can get out and burn off the carbs by running or even walking at a fast pace... your metabolism will be at its peak after 30 minutes and take as long to return to normal after the same amount of time as it would after an hour of the same level of activity.. A couple of 30 workouts will burn more carbs than one hour of continuous excercise... I think I might have told you that before.. Forgive me if I did.. I checked my Helms manual and found that the parking brake switch is bolted onto the bracket that the lever mounts and pivots on. It is on the passenger side in front of where the lever pivot point is and the bolt removes from the drivers side and is only torqued to 1lb ft.. It looks pretty simple to get to... Hell as small as you have gotten you could get to it in a breeze... There isn't any reason why your friend can't continue driving the car unless she needs to see the light to know that the brake is on... I think that looking at the brake handle is an adequate way to see if the brake is or isn't released but that is just because I am an old
guy and grew up driving cars that didn't have parking brake lights.. I need sleep..... Good morning.

Yeah, if I was there, I could have helped. But alas I was 4 hours away. I think that she took the console off and messed with some stuff and for now it's working correctly.

If the sensor is activating but she doesn't suspect the brake is actually engaging, it's possible brake fluid is slightly low. That could explain why pulling the handle temporarily resolves it... pulling the parking brake moves fluid. I would suggest either topping off or changing at that point due to age/mileage.
