Would taking out the back seats in a 2008 Fit Sport 5spd increase the mpgs at all? If so, is that seat hard to remove?

Yes and yes. Any weight savings increases MPG. The seat is held in by bolts, obviously. If you undo em all, the seats come out. Have fun. I wouldn't bother; the seats are in my mind a fairly essential piece of equipment.

 

You will definitely be able to accelerate with less throttle, so it does help fuel mileage if you do most of your driving in an urban environment... Lower the air pressure in the rear tires if you do it or the ass end will dance around a bit when you least expect it.

 

Just don't make any wild moves with your car, lowering the air pressure in your tires would start to negate any mpg gains you made by lowering the Fit's weight

 

Removing the rear seats would reduce the 38% 953 lb weight of the rear of the car by over 20%.. That would mean you can drop the rear tire pressure 6PSI without an increase in rolling resistance.

 

You may get more external noise radiating into the interior without the rear seats in, if that matters to you.

 

Removing the rear seats will have the added benifit of excusing you when the gang says "who's car should we take?". No better MPG!

 

I noticed an increase of about 2 MPG when I took mine out. Driving VERY carefully, I'm getting 42 MPG, driving spiritedly, I'm getting near 36-38. City driving I get about 33-35 all the time.

 

You're getting the same numbers that I was getting before installing the KWSC..I only got 42 MPG once when in South Texas along the border and Gulf Coast...

 

I'm having problems simply understanding how to get the rear seats to stay flat for cargo, or crash out in the back if I'm too buzzed to drink. Any help, sorry for being off topic.
