High mileage oil....???

My 07 fit sport had now 130k miles. It has always been with Mobil 1. I'm wondering if a transition is needed to high mileage oil or just leave it alone till it dies. No oil leaks, no problems, no nothing. Just high mileage.

Just keep doing what you're doing. If you have no leaks you don't need it. The oil contains stop-leak additives that swell seals and some that do some extra cleaning, but if you've been using synthetic for the life of the vehicle i'm sure everything is plenty clean already.

When using synthetic, how far do you guys go between each oil change?

I change it when the maintenance minder tells me to, it usually comes out to 8,000-10,000 miles. Using Mobil 1 5w-20.

My maintenance minder usually comes on around 5-6K. Right now I'm at about 7K or 8K on 5w20 Pennzoil Ultra + Purolator Pure One filter. I'm about to do an oil change this week using 0w20 Mobile One Extended Performance. That's only a few $ more than regular Mobile 1 @ Walmart. I also bought a Purolator Synthetic Filter that I'll be using. The Extended Performance is rated for 15,000 miles and the filter is rated for 10,000. I think I'll keep the oil in there for 15K and change out the filter halfway.

I wonder how the maintenance minder works. Does it just calculate mileage and how it's driven? Or does it actually sample the oil. Basically what I'm curious about is if it knows the difference between synthetic or regular oil?

Yes, uses mileage, fuel usage, engine load, etc to determine the health of the oil. Does not know the difference between regular and synthetic and does not sample the oil. If you are concerned you can always follow the minder and send the oil out to blackstone labs to get it tested and see how correct the minder is. Several people on here have done this already though and the minder does a pretty good job keeping the oil healthy by their findings.

I went 8K on the last synthetic change and sent a sample to Blackstone. They recommended going to 10K on this change and sending in another sample. I'm using Amsoil XL because a friend of mine is a dealer and gives me a great price on it.

Oh I see. Not concerned, just curious because I was thinking about switching over to synthetic.

Amsoil in my Kawasaki is rated to go 4 times that of regular oil. I would imagine it would almost be double or higher in a car. The Blackstone testing as some have done is a good way to get an idea and you really just need to spend money doing it once to get a baseline.

Agreed. I'm sure your engine is happy. That Amsoil is fantastic, but the budget just squeals when I buy the Signature line of oils.
