07 Fit -- Install an AC unit???
Hey guys, not sure if this is the right spot but here goes it...
We just bought an 07 Fit for my wife... and what do you know it turned out the car doesnt have an AC?! I know, I should have checked, but honestly I never thought you could buy an 07 car with no AC unit... thats just ridiculous.
Anyhow, Im trying to find out whether it is possible to buy an AC unit like a kit of some sorts and give to my mechanic to install to the car... Does anybody here know if that is possible and if Yes, where can I find the parts?
So far my google research is inconclusive, I have not found one person that has done this.
Thanks a ton!

There is indeed a configuration of the GD that doesn't have A/C. I found out from the Electronic Shop Manual when I checked the drive belt installation procedure and tension. Without A/C, the belt tension is taken at a different point.
I'm no expert on this but according to the Electronic Shop Manual, if you want to put A/C back in, you'll need at least the following:
- an idler pulley
- a Keihin spiral-type A/C compressor
- Keihin SP-10 compressor oil
- suction and discharge refrigerant lines
- a condenser
- an evaporator
- HFC134a refrigerant
Hope this helps

Welcome David.
Man it's alot of work! the dash will need to be remove to install the evaporator/ drain, in the front, the bumper cover come off and radiator to install the condencer, brackets for the compressor & compressor as type100 said above. Money could be saved and referance pix taken if you could find a doner car.

The compressor is fastened to the lower front side of the engine block by four really long bolts.
I checked under my hood just a couple hours ago and it looks like the car will need a lot more than just the main suction and discharge lines, which link the compressor and condenser together. One other component is the watch glass, which is mounted on a thinner line, and used for visual inspection of the flow of refrigerant gas through the system. It looks like there's at least three or four of these thinner lines snaking through the firewall into the dashboard and evaporator.
Tough conversion, indeed. Good luck!

Wow thanks for the fast replies guys!
Yes, tough luck indeed. I spoke with my mechanic and the Honda dealerships around and everyone is saying that it could be done... but it will cost upwards of $1500 -- very labor intensive.
Well out of all this at least I had the dealer we bought the car from agree to look for another Fit for us that has the AC, and just do a straight swap with the cars when he finds one for us... so fingers crossed they hold their word for it.
Moral of the story = make sure you check what you are buying... as silly as it sounds. AC conversion is not worth it on the Honda Fit.
Thanks again!

Yup, here in Canada, we have four trims: DX, DX-A (which stands for A/C), LX and Sport. The latter three obviously have A/C but not the base DX.
I guess you can get by in Quebec without A/C but I wanted it in my car. I found a super cheap Fit with no A/C and I called my mechanic to ask about installing after market. He said don't do it because it will cost you 2000$ but will add very little value to the car i.e. if I wanted to sell it 2 months later, I wouldn't be able to get 2 grand more on the basis of the a/c, I might get 500$ more...
That's why I shelled out 1 to 2 K more to get a FIT sport model. Didn't wanna spend on rims, a/c (wouldN't do it anyway) rear spoiler etc. I paid more upfront but I think I saved money not having to pay for mods.

Having lived in a tropical country all my life, I can't imagine any car from the 1980s onward without A/C.
I get chilled pretty easily, but even on relatively cool days in Manila, I try to keep at least the A/C running at the bare minimum to prevent the windows misting up from my own breath and sweat - such is the humidity here. I've had the A/C fail on me at least twice, and driving around with misted-up windows and windshield in the pouring rain is not something I would wish on anybody.

I assume the Fit is a Canadian model? I have an 08 Fit Base. In the United States, you either had the Base, which came with AC, power windows & door locks, 4 speaker stereo with a CD player, Tire Pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and anti lock brakes, or the Sport which added Spoilers and air dams, fog lights, bigger wheels, a 6 speaker stereo, and paddle shifters for automatic cars. I noticed that Canadian models have Daytime Running Lights instead of TPMS units, and manual crank windows & and manual doorlocks as well on the Basic DX version with no air conditioner. If you plan on keeping the 07 Fit, you will likely enjoy it more with the AC unit. I use mine even in the winter to keep the windows from fogging up. There should be factory wiring to connect an AC unit up to the car.

I was actually looking into the possibility of adding A/C to a 2007 Fit I just bought from a friend. Unlike David I knew exactly what I was getting as I've both worked on and ridden in the car many times over the years - yes, the base model in Canida is almost a true 'stripper' (it has power windows and a sound system so doesn't quite qualify as a 'stripper' in my book - 'stripper' in the context refers to the fact it is stripped of all 'luxuries'/accessories). I never had a car with A/C until my kids were almost grown, and I still can get along without it, but my youngest daughter, who I stay with when I'm in Vancouver and uses the Fit when I'm not in town, has commented on the lack of A/C (I have been telling her to use the 4/60 A/C - roll down the windows and drive at 60 K. - but apparently that doesn't cut it anymore).
Anyway, I (who can do the work myself) was looking into seeing what components I needed (I want this one as it is a manual transmission model - thus it comes off the line like a bat out of H..l - I also hate slushboxes/automatics -torque converters steel too much bottom end power). The info here has given me a lot to think about. I'm still fence-sitting and I'm less worried about resale value as I intend to keep this Fit until the floors rot out.
