Rear wheel rubbing on one side after aftermarket rim installation
Rear wheel rubbing on one side after aftermarket rim installation
I have a 2007 Honda Jazz/Fit GLi, and recently I bought a new set of wheels for it, a 16 inch and slightly wider than the stock ones. After I got them fitted, the right rear wheel started to rub on something when theres bumps ,don't know what, but only if you put weight at the back, ( 2 people at the back seat). I already rolled the guards , but still didn't fix the problem. I even put masking tape on the guards to make sure , took it out for a spin and purposely get the rub , but it did no damage to the tape. So now not sure what the problem is. If anybody knows the cause of this or any suggestions to fix this problem, it wold be much appreciated !! thanks!!

What is the offset and width of your new rims?
Also what tyre size is fitted?
What condition is rear suspension in?
Have you fitted spacers?
Is it rubbing against the bodywork or something else (like wheel arch liner or similar)?

Great questions; hope he knows the answers.
The rim size is 16 x 7.0 ( look a bit wider than the stock ones),standard tyres and has factory offset setting, never adjusted anything. The suspensions done 89000 Kms it seems to be alright , but I realised the car is leaning to the right a little , which might be a part of the problem, don't know if its the suspension. Don't think there are spacers on them, it was pre fitted by the rim shop so not 100% sure. The car doesn't seem to be rubbing on the body work, since the colour is yellow I should be able to see marks on the tyres bit there isn't any. I've tried putting tape on the guards on top of te wheel as well, but didn't do any damage to it either.

What's factory offset? the wheel manufacturer?
Check your wheels on the inner side of spokes or hub and you'll find the offset as well as manufactured date and wheel size. I'm guessing you have a wheel with an offset of 35 to 40 mm ifg offset is your problem..
Thats not Honda spec which is 45 to 53 mm depending on models.
Your 'leaning to the right' may be a better clue. Measure the distance from the ground to the lower fender and aklso from the wheel centerline on flat level ground. On all fouyr corners. If the right side is lowser than a quarter inch on theed right you need to check your spring heights and chassis alignment as well, especiaslly if your Fit has been in a wreck. Spring heights compressed are measured by removing the wheel and on your jack under the lower suspension hub joint return the ride height to the one you measured. Again, if one side is more than an eigth inch your spring appears to be weak and that lets thed wheel rise up more on 'bumps'
PS that eigth inch essily becomes a half inch at the tire..
good luck.

Offset is a WHEEL specification. It's got absolutely nothing to do with the car. With respect to the fender, higher offset means the wheel is tucked in, while lower offset means it sticks out.
I had 16"x7" Rota Circuit 10s with +45mm offset and never had any rubbing whatsoever.
Lowest wheel offset you can go without rubbing is +42mm - any lower than that, all bets are off.
