07 sport 4 blown rings

I removed the coil packs to clean up the corroded boot inards and removed the EGR valve to clean it up a bit as well.

07 sport with 109,000 miles

used carb cleaner on the egr valve.
would not start at first but eventually got it running but rough, would sound like a miss every few seconds but would start right up each time. until I went to drive it. got about 1/2 mile from home when it died and would not start. did a compression test

#1 - 60 psi
#2 - 75 psi
#3 - 75 psi
#4 - 60 psi

did a wet test as well and got

#1 - 150 psi
#2 - 140 psi
#3 - 145 psi
#4 - 160 psi

so can to much carb cleaner blow all 4 rings at once?

is it easier to rebuild the bottom end and replace the entire engine?

or link me to a thread that already covers this, I could not find one

Carb cleaner usually evaps pretty quickly so it seems odd that it would blow your rings. When you refer to "cleaning up the corroded boot innards" what do you mean? Your wet numbers don't seem horrible (well on cyl 4), but still too much variance between cylinders. Did you make sure the engine was warm and opened the TB all the way when you cranked it?

To me it seems like there is more in the coil replacement which would cause some of the issues. That still does not address low compression tho. How did the plugs look?

I pulled the boot off and cleaned up the corroded spring and fuse looking thing along with the inside of the boot and coil with a vinegar salt solution, then baking soda water solution to neutralize the acid before re-installation.

both tests where cold engine TB open, car would not start, but the air temp was over 80f.
I did not get it started until later after the oil sat in the cylinders all day. with the oil the clean coils and old plugs it ran perfect until all the oil burned up. then chunky and died again.

the original plugs from birth looked good they are in there now. the new plugs i put in 3,000 miles ago where really block and covered in soot

Ya doesn't sound good :/ either oil is getting by the rings or you're running really rich.. sounds like more a possiblity of rings tho like you said.

There was a member on here in Texas selling his spare engine for $300 but didn't want to ship (or else several of us would have gotten it ).. maybe your can work something out with him.

That's not too bad at all. I don't think I've seen a thread but pulling it shouldn't be too hard. You can find the k swap guides online and just follow the beginning half of it I guess haha. Everyone drops them from the bottom it seems but it's probably possible from the top as well with the stocker if you can't get the frame high enough to slide it from the bottom. Cheap furniture dollys work great for this

I replaced mine. See

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-...c-problem.html

I pulled my motor out with an engine hoist, from the top. It wasn't a problem.

No, you disconnect tranny from engine, slide engine away from tranny a couple inches to clear torque converter, then lift up and out. Mine is an automatic. Get a manual for some pointers on what to disconnect, etc... There's a link to one here on fitfreak forums somewhere.

The engine is not heavy, maybe 300 lbs. But you will want a hoist to put it in or a jack to lift the car high enough.

I would change it while it's apart. 62k isn't a lot, but I've heard a lot of people changing their clutches early on the Fit.
