Battery dummy light

Just wondering if it works at all. I see it come on when the car ignition is in the on postion. But a couple months back when my car would not start it did not indicate anything. After noticing the car would take longer to crank I took the battery off and trickle charged it a bit, it only lasted about a week more before it died. Maybe it did come on, I just wanted to get home that night so I just said screw this and push started the car. Another thing that is alarming me is that my scan gauge read low 13volts at the time the battery was weak....a new battery reads mid 13-14v..

That "battery" idiot light is for alternator function. As long as the alternator is in working order the light wont illuminate.

The battery light is for your cars charging system, so if that light comes on its because your alternator is failing

Other than what's already posted, sounds like time for a new battery.

5 yrs. is pretty good for battery life. Others on here have replaced theirs with 51R-type from Costco. Here's an older thread that might interest you: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-...tery-swap.html

yea it lasted a very long time, it only started to give problems when the weather got cold this year (mind you cold is 40-50 degrees) for like maybe a handful of days a year. The car is a 2008. I looked at that thread and a couple others (odessey battery) before deciding to go to the dealer because I had no time to wait for a battery to ship.
