"Boing!" sound after rear suspension install
"Boing!" sound after rear suspension install
Hey everyone,
I reverted to OEM suspension on new struts today. After getting everything set up, I started noticing a loud reverberant "boing!" sound on certain bumps and turns. It's clearly coming from my rear left corner.
I looked and did notice that my rear springs are installed in different orientations. The left spring corkscrews in a clockwise direction from top to down, while the right spring is opposite. However, the springs looked to me like they had no particular orientation i.e. the top looks just like the bottom. They're not like my old GF210's which clearly had an orientation. I checked the struts but they seemed tight and installed correctly.
Getting the rear springs off is an almighty pain in the ass (thanks, torsion beam suspension!). Can anyone provide some suggestions as to what my problem might be?

Loosen the lower shock bolt, bounce the car a few times by hand (side to side, open hatch and sit down on car a few times)
Then retighten shock bolt.
You dont need to jack car up at all
Also visually inspect that the spring has both the bottom and top insulators correctly installed

Thanks, I'll give that a try. So is it likely that the spring is just not in its natural position? I could see that happening since it is very hard to install the rear springs without bending them into weird angles.
