A/C Fan Cutting Out

This has happened twice recently.

I'll be running the fan on "4" with the a/c on. It will work fine for a while, then I will notice that the fan seems to be blowing much more weakly. It is as though a fuse had been tripped or the fan motor went into "limp" mode. Turning off the a/c has no effect on it. Turning off the fan off and on has no effect. It stays this way unless I turn it off for a while (like, until my next trip in the car).

Is something overheating? Or about to fail entirely?

Thanks!

I suppose there is no danger in letting things go until the fan + resistor units finally crap out (?). I mean, this isn't going to create an alternator-battery problem, is it?

i'd change it ASAP, it sounds like an easy and cheap repair. I used to own a dodge dakota and they were pretty famous for this problem (IT HAPPENED TWICE in 3 years on mine)---i saw reports of the wiring getting so hot around that resistor that it caused damage requiring replacement of parts of the wiring harness--the damage wasnt just limited to the resistor. i dont know if that has ever happened on a fit, but if it happens, i wont wait around for more damage.

I must be a little impatient today. Bernardi's part numbers are not the same as Honda's part numbers, and it's aggravating me. Also, I am wondering if "Heater Blower" is the same blower that runs when the a/c is on. I'm guessing it is. Also, Bernardi has the resistor on another, separate parts page.

How much of the dashboard has to be removed in order to change out the resistor and the blower? Is it just the undertray after you remove the glovebox? Or does the center stack (console) have to come out to replace the resistor?

Thanks.
