Strange marking inside oil filter.

I was looking at some Honda oil filters and I noticed that they have what appears to be red marker pen marks in the center. Is this normal for Honda oil filters!?

I don't know why the filters don't come with tear off plastic film covers like other manufacturers! Are you listening HONDA!?

Probably just QA marking.

All my Honda filters i've ever gotten were shrink wrapped...

Just an observation, the filter referenced by the OP has 6 holes on the open end, whereas the ones I'm showing, have 8 holes. (not counting the threaded center hole)

I can not see the reference pics being at work. With that being said I have never seen any Honda o/f come from Honda without it being in a plastic wrap. Not sure about other countries of Origin but the USDM stuff is plastic wrapped.

Good catch Rampo, also that rubber is usually orange, not white like in OP's pic, and the canister is blue, which should be visible in that pic.

The S2000 filters have 6 holes.

I don't think that's a Honda filter though in the original post. Best explanation for all the discrepancies I see.

Thanks guys. Filter is genuine Honda filter for UK Jazz (1.4 litre) which is similar to Fit. Filter is made by Purflux in France. It's packaged in a cardboard carton but not sealed

Anyway my oil has been changed. Old oil filter had the same red markings so like you say must be some kinda factory marking. Just panicked when I saw it.

I note that oil sump drain bolt had no magnetic insert. Guess I won't regret changing the oil every 6 months then.

As far as I know, USDM cars have no magnetic insert either. If that helps any.

Those red marks look like assembly marks meant to identify an action done correctly.
