Sucks. Me too. I guess I should have waited eight years to start tuning my 2007 GD. Or at least after 12/03/2013 when Hondata started producing FlashPros for the GD with Bluetooth.

Had the car tuned yesterday. The guy seemed like he dialed it in good. No clue on tuning myself. Got +11 WHP and 10 WTQ.

Here is what I have been doing. Run stock basemap and datalog 2nd and 3rd gear pulls along with some cruising under heavy load (highway cruise control uphill).

Then set your graphs up so you can see your knock count and knock retard happen. See when it is happening and the conditions creating it(to lean or to much timing)

Then compare that to your new tune to see when the knock events are occuring and adjust timing/fueling to try eliminate it.

Even on the stock tune I got knock events.

Also see if anything is vibrating cause that might cause false knock readings which kicks in knock retarder and a loss of power

^yup

ideally, you want kr to be 0 everywhere... but on many engines you'll get a couple points of knock at certain frequencies that you just can't get rid of...

easy to to determine if its tune or frequency related is to up the octane and see if it does the same thing... if it does, its frequency, if not, it's tune...

Frequency? Like noise as in something rattling?

Yeah it seems 1st and 2nd gear even with a load are at 0 KR. From 3rd on as I increase throttle it will increase KR to max at 5*.

I recently switched to 91 octane (highest in CA) a few weeks before the tune. I'm gonna have to data log this and figure things out.

Could a colder plug help this?

I currently have the IK20 plugs with the Denso factory gap of .05. Many use the IK22 plus since it is colder but it comes with a bigger gap of .8 according to Denso. So would running the IK22 with a small gap help control KR at WOT?

Colder plugs will help to a certain degree.

The fact it doesn't occur in 1 and 2 but it does occur in 3-5 gears probably means there are some higher timing areas that are running too lean. Read your datalog a and add some fuel(until you see 13.5:1) to try and kill the knock. If that doesn't then reduce timing by a degree.

I'm actually not sure... Do some research around here, especially in the threads regarding the ik22 plugs...

Ideally you want the gap to be as wide as possible while still keeping a strong spark...

I have seen people run anywhere from .045-.052 gap with the ik22. Im running .05 since that is the manufacturer's recommendation.

Waiting for my plugs to come in this week. Going to try and see if that helps some. I data logged the car a few times to get an idea on where the KR is hitting.

Honestly I have no clue what the hell i'm doing when I try to read the graphs. Is there a "learning to tune for dummies" book out there. I would like to be able to just fine tune work the tuner did on the dyne for me. The shop is cool and willing to fix it but i'd like to learn some of this myself for future tuning.
