I'm looking to buy a 1st gen Fit and wondered, with all of the seat configurations, is there a way two people could sleep on a relatively flat surface in the Fit? Maybe with slim air mattresses? I'm nearly 6'2", could I fit in a Fit?

 

Probably one person, I wouldn't try with two.

 

If one would fit, why not two?

 

At the same height as you I fit in the Fit and have plenty of room to spare. That having been said, I have never had the chance to try to sleep in the back of it. I have too much stuff in the back and imagine that to be able to lie down you would have to curl up in almost a fetal position. Fitting you and someone else in the back and sleeping would be a hard feat, I think. The front seats are okay for a quick nap, though uncomfortable for anything over about an hour.

 

Because of your height, it will be difficult for you to stretch out in the prone position. With two, it will be that much harder. Therefore, I would say that the answer to your question is that it is possible, but maybe not optimal.

 

With the front seats all the way back and the back seats folded, you get a basically flat area approximately 5 feet long from the hatch to the back of the front seats. You can get longer by moving the front seats forward, of course, but then there's a hole between the back and front seats that you'd need to fill with something. With a single person, you can go diagonally and maybe bend the legs a bit to get tolerably comfortable. With two, it's a whole lot harder if one or both are at all tall.

There is also the question of what to do with your other stuff while you're sleeping. If you travel lightly, it can be put on the front seats/front footwells, but too much junk and you'll have to find some other place to put it.

The other option is to tilt the front seats back, which works about as well as in most any car—maybe OK for a quick cat nap, but not really good for a restful night's sleep.

 

I lived in my fit for 4 months while traveling. I never once stayed in a hotel. I'm the car I fit my luggage, an acoustic guitar, a 53cm frame bike and myself in the back. My gf came to visit me for a week and we both fit in the back. I'm 5'9 200 lbs. I think you guys should be fine.

Yeah the Fit is a pretty roomy car. I'd imagine you could make shift something to work.

 

I just did this last weekend. I'm 6'1-6'2 and two people would only work spooning curled up haha. It's not a matter of it NOT being able to work, just how comfortable you want to be. If you wanna squeeze a little extra leg room, remove the armrest (if you have one) and slide the seats forward and tilt them. I'd put my head toward the back and legs pointing to the front. I didn't try it this way but it might give you just a couple more inches.

 

I've always wondered about this. Not having done this I feel like the only way to make it comfortable would be to:

1. Keep everything in a roof top container
2. Push the front seats all the way forward and angle them forward also.
3. Maybe even use an air mattress.

I'm 6'0 and I remember laying in the back with the seats pushed forward thinking it would be fairly comfortable.
