Cool Spare Key

My wife lost my spare key and I want to replace it with a simple, non remote key. Can I just go to the hardware store and have a copy made or do I have to pay the dealer's ridiculous $120 estimate to have a copy made and "programmed"? How can I cut and program my own key? I don't care if my spare has remote capabilities, I just want to be able to start the car with the spare!

2007 Fit Sport, manual transmission.

I can not answer on a 2007 but on the GE8 Sport you need a chipped key. I got mine with remote for $75 at a local locksmith. A cut key without the chip will unlock the doors but not start the vehicle.

spare key

I paid $115 yesterday at my local dealership to replace the key my husband lost. $50 for a new key and another $50+ to reprogram the new key and my existing one. There's a chip in the key to enable ignition so even if no remote or alarm capability you have to pay up - the hardware stores won't even look at car keys anymore from what I understand.

I just paid $75 at a local locksmith. Honda wanted $125 as well. I love deals!
