Had shaking issue, replaced coils, plugs, worked good for a day, then c..

I replaced all four coils and plugs. Got the 4 Hitachi coils and the 4 iridium plugs (pregapped and double checked gap). Used the Dielectric grease on the ceramic part of coils.

I drove for 10-20 minutes and it was great, shaking was gone.

Next day I drove 20-40 minutes and then my car would not start. Engine kept trying but wouldn't get to a point where I could give gas and drive.

What did I do wrong?

Are you getting a check engine light?
What plugs did you use?

May sound silly but I would re-check to make sure all of the coil packs are nice and secure with a good connection.

also

make sure its not your MAF sensor.....this would put you in limp mode and you're car wont run for more that a few seconds after coming to a complete stop.

get yourself a can of MAF sensor cleaner and give it a shot if it isn't the ignition system...

Well, this only happened the day after the ignition coil and spark plug changes. I had to drive about 34 miles that day, 17 to and 17 back. After the 17 back I went to start the car after a couple minutes of chatting and it wouldn't start. Right before I got back the car shook pretty badly. Eventually it did start and has worked since.

I've driven the car ever since that day (about 10 days) including one lengthy drive with no problems.

Not sure why it had the issue so bad that day. But the initial problem (the jerking when stopped in drive at stop lights etc) is entirely gone.

Maybe a coil was loose or a spark plug was dirty. Some have reported similar issues with engine mounting bracks. The car is running very smooth now though.

No check engine light. I used the iridium coils.

The spark plugs originally in it were completely fine, but most tips I read said to go ahead and change the plugs while the coils were out.

Same issue back in 2010. Ended up being the valve adjustments out of spec! All my exhaust valves had zero clearance and starting to burn, intake was very tight as well at 55k miles. I know the adjustment is not 'due' till 100k miles but the engine wouldn't last that long. How many miles on the car and any valve adjustment records?

Over 60k and no valve adjustments to the best of my knowledge. If the issue happens again I'll definitely look into that.

Well you pretty much secured my thought about what's happening. After cleaning my coils, it did the same thing... one hard fail, then it was great. I seriously think the car is smarter than we are and it's saying WTF is this good shit on my engine. After some automatic adjustments, it will learn what settings are good and bad. Its like taking a big shit and feeling good afterwards. The next time I started my car, it was great.

I wouldn't worry about it. Drive on!
