Honda Key Woes

Hi guys, new member here. I have a 2007 Honda fit sport and am in need of a replacement key. So I called my local Honda dealer and the quoted me 450 dollars for one key and programming. That's crazy. I have read through other post about the matter and 200 bucks approx should be the cost. Maybe somethings changed? Any input appreciated.

I lost the transponder keys to my Toyota Solara and AAA was able to make new ones for way less than the dealer quoted me.

I got a local locksmith company to make a new one for me for $130. He said he had to tell the machine it was a Honda Element for it to work but I've been using the key for a few weeks now with no problems. You might look through your local yellow pages for locksmiths and call around.

It depends on your key system. The ones I had from first gen GD cost only 20 bucks. When I upgraded to a GD type S, it cost me over a 100 bucks to dup a key. The chip for your immo to read cost a lot to programme. And Honda's key system are always on the pricey side.

My 2005 Mitsubishi cost only 5 bucks to dup.

Never lose your keys.

P.S: Oh ya, price is for where i'm from. It might cost more in the States.
