Dashboard not working after changing the alternator

Hello,
My 2007 Fit's red electric light went on.
Made it home and all lights and power steering shut down. The shifter locked and I has to use a small screw driver in the slot to shift.
I charged it over night and brought to the mechanic.

He put in a aftermarket alternator. and then said the lights in the dash are not working?

He said maybe it needs an OEM alternator.

Any thoughts here?
Any one have this issue?

This is my first time at 124K to have to bring it in. I do this work most of the time. But I had time constraints.

Did everything work correctly (except for the alternator) prior to you taking the car to the mechanic?

Why does it sound like your mechanic is merely guessing?
(I am expected to come up with real answers for problems, why should any other mechanic be allowed to guess?)

Have you verified what you were told? Verify what does or does not work? Just how much of it does or does not work? Only the charge warning light, the entire cluster, dash lights that should come on with the headlights, or what?

Fuses good in all fuse boxes? (alternator shares the METER fuse, hint hint fuse #3 in the dash fuse box)
Fault codes?
