Fuse #3 blowing

Fuse #3 blowing
Hi, hoping for a bit of help. 2008 Fit Sport with about 115K miles.
Blowing fuse #3 which includes dash lights and power steering - not to mention the alternator and brake interlock.
I replace the fuse and it lasts between hours and days but blows again. Sometimes the radio and AC controls (entire center dash actually) also goes out but it comes back when the car is turned off, sits a moment and restarts.
Just had in the shop for 3 weeks and the mechanic essentially punted it back to me - no charge which was fair. His main problem was the intermittent nature and the fuse has held for several days.
Anyone out there have a clue or even a half baked theory?
I found this diagram (look part way down the page the url links to) but do not really know where the components are physically so it does me little good.

Completely random:
Check the stop lamps and grommet for secondary O2 sensor wire
also check for the codes (if ELD or secondary O2 sensor heaters are suspects)
Also disable aftermarket alarm (if so equipped)
