2007 Fit FUSE #3 keeps blowing

Was very excited to buy my first Fit two weeks but after a few days I am stressed! The gauge cluster shut on me and then electric power steering died as well. I found the blown fuse #3 (IG METER) and after being replaced, even put in a brand new battery, it died again few days later. I found out from the mechanic with wiring diagram that when the fuse blows the alternator also stops charging which is why my battery died as well. So as much as i want to fix myself and have mechanic friends, I am stuck paying 60$ to diagnose a dozen different components tied to this fuse. I already paid them to fix it last week but looks like they just replaced a fuse and looked it over nothing else, same as what i did before bringing it to them!

Only info I could find online was this:
****the o8 Fit i worked on today had several fits. lost power steering and instrument cluster among other options. found a blown fuse at IG METER . Well i found the unexpected. after looking the vehicle over from top to bottom i saw something out of place. the shield covering the cat converter rotted off and wedged itself between the floorboard and the o2 sensor. the shield chafed the heater power wire for sensor and grounded itself to the cat. well easy peasy from there. CRAZY.

I believe this could have happened to me as well but if anyone has any other helpful info then please share!
Also check engine light was on for o2 sensor

I don't know what the fuse has to do with the power steering but Honda did extend the warranty for our Fits for your steering issue. If it happens to me, I will do my best to drive the car to the nearest dealership so a technician can experience the failed power steering right there on the spot. Turning the car off will likely reset the issue to normal where your friendly Honda dealer will stamp on your paperwork: could not replicate owner's issue.

Yes this is a somewhat common issue as they get older and rust sets in, I've seen it happen.

Slide under the car with a flashlight and check out the shield on your cat.

The O2 sensor fault code (P0141?) should set as soon as fuse #3 blows. Assuming the cat heat shield came loose and gnawed into the wires, see if you can secure the shield (or remove it temporarily) and fix the chafed wire(s) ---erase the codes and the code might stay gone after replacing the blown fuse. (cross your fingers)

Fuse #3 supplies power to many different systems and components including the EPS control unit and the alternator, everything attached to that fuse quits working when the fuse blows. .

Just wanted to thank you! You were spot on. Shield made bare wire which got shorted. Fixed it myself and save who knows how much! I owe you a beer or 3!
