Looking at a 1st Gen Fit. Common issues?
Hey guys,
I'm going to look at a 2008 Honda Fit LX, manual shift tomorrow. Asking price is $2000, but seller is motivated to move it, so I'm hoping it can be bought for $1200-1500.
It currently has 152,000km (95,000miles), and according to the pics, looks to be in good condition.
Are there any common issues, or things I should look for in this generation of Fit? I've read somewhere they are prone to leaks (is this true?). Any advice from you Fit Freaks would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Leaks - check for signs of leaking in spar tire well and floor boards.
Valve adjustment - ask for records showing when last one was done. If never, do it right away if you buy.
Rust - as with any car, check the rocker panels, floor boards, and fuel door area for rust
For that price and with that miles, you can't go wrong if it all checks out.

That's a ridiculously low price for that car. Make sure it hasn't been in an accident and ask the owner when all the maintenance was last done (plugs, ignition coils, valve adjustment, all fluids, brakes, etc). I got my '07 with 93,000 miles for $6500 cash 6 years ago. I realize the same car is worth much less now, but in the thousands of $$??? As far as leaks, if there is water in the spare tire wheel well, the crack at the top of the hatch hinge is easily fixed. The first generation Fit is a VERY solid vehicle. Looks like you are going to get a bargain.

My wife has a 2007 Base Fit with 67,000 miles on it and has had three of the common problems: bad ignition coils (check for misfires with a scan tool, may not be bad enough to throw a code); leaking into spare tire well (fixed cracks near hatchback hinge with Flexseal); and the drivers door lock went bad, had to be replaced.

Coil packs - if they are originals, they're going to go bad. There is a very easy to do mod to add a dead pedal for your clutch foot, otherwise there is nowhere to rest your foot and the carpet gets all bunched up.
