High Mileage Items to Watch, Replace?
High Mileage Items to Watch, Replace?
Hi all, I have an '08 Fit Base, 5-speed with right at 150,000 miles on it. I bought used back in 2013 with 80,000 miles, and it's performed flawlessly. I'm a stickler to maintenance: always do full synthetic oil changes every 5,000 miles, have replaced the plugs twice since I've had it, ignition coils replaced, oxygen sensor, radiator flushed at 110K, etc., ...I even had the valves adjusted by a Honda stealership at around 120,000 miles. I've literately had ZERO issues other than normal maintenance.
I know these days, 150K on a Honda is not considered high mileage. I've recently toiled over whether to get another vehicle, but I love my little Fit and honestly, it runs like it has half the miles on it. I've decided to drive it "until the wheels fall off."
My question (finally): What items do you true high mileage Fit owners see needing replaced from, say, 150K - 200K? How long should I expect things like the alternator, starter, radiator, thermostat, etc. to last? Is there anything I should keep an eye on?
Any of your sage advice is much appreciated. This community has been so helpful in the past. Thanks in advanced!
Cheers!

The only things we've had fail since new are the fuel pump and one ignition coil. Both were between 160 and 180k miles.
Maintenance since new has been:
full synthetic oil change every 5k
plugs, valve adjustment, and drain/fill radiator every 50k
drive belt at 100k
changed the transmission fluid twice (total of 3 fills over the 200k miles)
brake fluid every 3 years
brake pads, rotors, tires, alignments as needed

coming from a fan of suspension:
-look out for worn bushings
-oem shocks may eventually need replacement
I'll let the other experts cover the other stuff, under the hood (though you already called out most of it ---> alternator, starter, rad, t stat, etc)

We have a Fit on here nearing 500k miles with mostly OE parts. I wouldn't assume that anything will necessarily be required to make it to 200k miles.
I blame ethanol fuel for our fuel pump failure (there were signs of geling) and our coil only died because a loose spark plug was sooting it for years.
The GE and GD Fit's are crazy reliable if maintained.
Since we live in the South and don't have extreme heat or cold, our bushings are all still great and no signs of struts/shocks leaking. They are a bit weak, but are not leaking. We are closing in on 200k miles.

At 168K I haven't needed oxygen sensors, but only work I've done other than what you mentioned:
-Clutch
-Transmission mount - check for torn rubber bushings
-Sway bar end links
-Idler pulley

Plugs
Coils
Valve adjust
Every 65 to 80 K miles.
Flush the cooling system at least every 24 to 36 months(Miles mean little on coolant its the heat cycles and age.
Use the Honda coolant. Its good stuff and just not that much more money..
Change the belts each time you do the coolant. Age is important on rubber .
On a really old car expect to R&R things like door gaskets, window seals etc especially if the car is in hot country.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your replies. These are great things to keep an eye on. Like I said, my Fit runs like a top, like it has half the miles on it. Looking forward to the next 150K on it
Cheers!
