Making F/IC overboost function

I can't possibly be the first person to have this idea but I haven't seen it anywhere or found it in any searches. I see my F/IC has a programable 12 volt switch normally used to activate vtec early under different load conditions. I was thinking maybe I can instead use it to power a solenoid hooked up to a manual boost controller and set the activation criteria to 4000 rpms and 80%throttle. Under those conditions or higher it would cause the boost controller to allow up to 10psi when the solenoid is activated and the normal 7psi when it is not. That way I could minimize wear, improve part throttle drivability, but still let her rip when I step on the gas. Plus this would function somewhat like a 2 stage nitrous system and help keep traction from a launch thanks to the rpm limit. Anybody heard of
someone doing this with the fic?

When I think about it it's really just a half assed progressive boost controller on the cheap... Sounds like my style.

I like what you are doing... I just don't have patience to do all of that soldering so it will be the boom slang route whenever I am ready to put my F/IC to use.... I most of all hope that I can make it work correctly when adding methanol/Water/nitrous oxide injection....That ought to chill the intake adequately.

There is a solenoid as you describe from Ingersoll Rand ( I will go find the part number) that many DSM and Honda guys have been using to do just that for years.

By no means is an electronic wastegate actuator half-ass. It is something that AEM standalones and my ECMLink have built in though. We have been using the emissions solenoids and the stock boost control solenoid however, the IR unit is superior for this job.

It is used more as a traction control system on FWDs than a scramble boost feature but it will perform both functions just fine.

You can use it to limit wheel spin in lower gears and then allow a scramble boost setting in 3rd - 5th like the new Nissan GTR and the Porsche GT2's.
This helps dig in and create some sick 60' and 1/8th or 1/4 mile times.

I would love to see a GE stick a 1.8-1.9sec 60' ET.

I have a post or two discussing this in my thread on the FI page as well.

So let me go find that P/N#...

It's only $39 @ ECMTuning, Inc.

Here is how we typically use/program it in:
boostcontrol [ECMTuning - wiki]

If you decide to give it a Meth N20 cocktail you don't need to add the water!

You could make yourself an even more badass setup by having the methanol nozzle on the intercooler endtank outlet and then a direct port 35shot on the intank manifold!

You will probably return almost 75whp on a 35shot on a boosted high compression motor. The methanol though will make things really rich, but that can be dealt with. Better to rich than lean anyways.

DSM, when I can get all of the stuff I will need and am able to get as far as I can with it are you going to let me camp out in your yard so I can get some help dialing it in???? I can't believe the difference a little cool air makes in the way my car is running and that is with heavier but also stickier tires on heavier 16" wheels..... Tomorrow I have to work on my Fender Bassman amplifier that is setup for playing blues harp. I ran into some guys with a working 3 piece band with gigs that needs a harp player and when they get back from Austin I'm going to sit in at a gig with them at a local club.... It;s been 10 years since I have been on stage and I miss it.

Hell, I've got a guest room you can stay in! Or a measly acre you can setup camp upon.

This stuff is my obsession and I really want to see what you've pieced together in person, boosted fit on air-ride shocks

Good luck at the show! Austin seems like a lot of fun, but I didn't really get to spend anytime there on my drive through a couple years ago. We were on our way out to Phoenix to see some friends who race sand rails and kinda zig zagged through TX. Then we went north, ate at the Big Texan in Amarillo like true tourists and enjoyed your 80mph day time limits on the way through West TX!

Are you talking to me??? Are You talking To Me???? I've got blistered lips from blowing my Harps and I need to get an ease out to pull a screw out of the amp cabinet that I stripped when I overtightened it the last time I had it apart... I have some old style Weber speakers but I need one more that is ribbed to go with the smooth ones to get a little break up distortion at low volume on up to ear bleeding loud... Believe it or not, it was too warm to get to sleep last night until 3:30 and I woke up at 7:00. It is cooling off some now but was 85 for most of the day.... I think I need to go shopping so I do my part to stimulate the economy but it doesn't feel right since there haven't been any terrorist attacks and a Connecticut Yankee isn't on TV telling me to show those terrorist they ain't shit, with his affected Texas good old boy drawl and that I should go to the mall and spend money. I'm out of it. I need sleep and pain medicine and more money and maybe some Viagra if I can get out of town .

Silly question here. I have both a 7psi actuator and a 10psi actuator in my possession. When I decide to go above 7psi would it be better to keep in the 7psi actuator and bleed off boost or better to switch in the 10?

Not a silly question at all, if you can control boost creep with the 7psi actuator use it. You are talking about a wastegate actuator I am guessing?
