GE8 Rev Limiter question, please help

Hi friends,

I just installed a K&N SRI typhoon kit, and I love it, it works great in terms of helping power and response of our small car.

Installation was perfect, did not find any problem with it and it seems to me i installed everything perfectly as instructed in the manual.

However only one thing left bugs me. After I installed everything I rev-tested the car, and I noticed the RPM bounced back down everytime it reaches 5000. I did it when the car was idle and transmission was at N. My GE8 is an A/T.

I NEVER revved the car up higher than 4000 RPM when in gear, so this is the first time I did it over 4000 RPM

So my question is: is it normal? I deeply suspect it is the rev limiter preventing me from revving it up above 5000 RPM in N.

However, since our car has a redline around 6000 RPMs, why 5000??

Someone please enlighten me in this matter

Thanks a lot

Cheers

Not a great idea to rev em' without some kind of a load on the engine. Honda's smart.

You should find an open rode, free of traffic or pedestrians...drop her in sport mode and give it a go from a dig. Watch how high your rpms climb then ;-)

Why do you want to rev the piss out of the car while in neutral? I'm sure Honda built the ECU that way on purpose.

Next time, road test the car...don't rev it in the driveway.

Just a rev cut when stationary or up to like 6mph possibly. Same for the MT as well.

hey guys,

thanks a lot for various response here. i did not do it on the street. Just did in my garage, so nobody was harmed.

So from what I've read from your responses, i can conclude that there is this rev cut-off programed in the ECU that restricts the engine from going beyond certain RPM, in my case it is 5000RPM, right.

Does the RPM limit here the same for everyone? (5000RPM cut-off in Neutral)

Thanks again for your attention

ahhhhh! this thread answered my question... so it's the ecu... coz for older cars i think you can rev it in neutral upto the limiter. for newer ones it longer applies. coz i did this revving thing after installing the catback exhaust. just testin out the sound it makes full throttle from neutral.
