Flywheel information found GE-GK

Dunno if this is in the right section. Move if necessary

I like to compare various part numbers that Honda uses, and I stumbled onto the fact that the GE and GK both have the same exact part number for the flywheel.

Looks like us GE owners are going to be getting quite the aftermarket, as the GK is definitely going to overcome the GD and GE market very soon, especially with Honda starting to introduce factory modifications for the GK generation.

the website I use (myhondapartsstore <dot> com ) does not have any pictures or diagrams for the 2015 yet.

The clutch release fork and throwout bearing are an exact match as well.

This means our aftermarket for holding down extra power or in general attempting to drop further rotating weight is in the hands of any company that likes the new GK!

This is more than interesting! Hehehe, how much do you think the stock GE clutch can handle btw?

Id say not much over stock reliably until you remove the clutch delay valve. Its part of the clutch master. Item9 on the CRZ forums welded it and drilled through the master to make a delay-free master and it suggests FAR better clutch life without it.

are we really in shortage of clutch options at the moment?? I've never dug deep but spec offers their full line (I think). Not that I'm ever going to be one putting down enough power to justify anything all that wild.

I can only think of 4 different aftermarket clutches that are sport related. Exedy has always had the OEM replacement market covered, hell they make OEM clutches for plenty of cars anyways lol

This is good to know, and to keep an eye on what the happens with the GK.

The OEM GE flywheel is ~17lbs. Generally, 12lbs for a "light weight fly wheel" is standard on an stock setup/tune in order not cause a misfire code (check engine light).

I would think tuning companies have a hard time investing in the GE Fit; due to lack of interest, combined with only a ~5lbs savings.

I realize 12-13 pounds is factory crank threshold, but Im gonna go extreme and go light as possible without reducing clutch durability.

Its worth a trip to dealership to force a crank relearn. I can get it done under $80, or you can opt to find someone with a honda diagnostic tool, but it MUST have updates to at least 2011 to cover fit's ecu rewrite in early 2011

This company makes a 8.3 lbs F-W. There is no pricing, you'll have to contact them directly it seems to purchase it.

Also Looks like these guys still sell the MFactory Flywheel... or they dont relize that MFactory doesn't make the GE8 FW anymore...

I emailed surge-racing a few weeks back, the response I got was "I will email the factory and see if they have any in stock to sell"

Never got a word back, even after a second email inquiry.

that second link, maybe they stock piled GE flywheels. Worth an email inquiry.

I think I will just wait on it for now though. Next summer is when Ill get back into doing mods I think lol., build the budget back up.

Email sent. Waiting for a responds from JBtuned.

Edit:

I just noticed on MFactory's site that the fly wheel is the same PN for the GD... I wonder if this is a error on JBtuned's part.

I also found a company in CA that machines weight off OEM flywheels. Im sure they are not the only tuners that do this.

My OEM clutch is chattering at ~20k miles. My clutches last about ~90k on my other cars, I don't punish my cars. This includes auto-xing and a handful of track-days. I swapped to the "delay-free CMC" it's better, but the clutch is too far gone by now and I'm sure the fly wheel is heat checked because of it. That delay valve is bad news like fit13 said.

This is what I used:

Strange yours is going at 20k, my clutch still feels great at 40k miles, and Ive done some pretty horrible things to this car lol

STILL havent gotten time to throw in the civic CMC, would love to know how this clutch REALLY feels like so i can get that much more out of it.
