Installing Tweeters in Base GE/09?
#21
When I called Bernardi parts, I had them look them up in the inventory system. I also went to my local dealership and had them check inventory as well, and got the same answer.
I didn't check Majestic parts, because they have an insane handling fee for a small item.

No it's actually pretty good placement because the path length difference between the two tweeters is minimized. Closer to the windshield would be ideal so that the sound waves that bounce off the windshield wouldn't arrive that much later than the waves coming at you straight from the tweeter.
... uh, that's still not very clear. I need sleep. sorry

I see what you're trying to say now. I was thinking about that also and I might have to cut off the grill. I might end up selling them though because of all the trouble it's going to take to get them to work right. I'm sure I can find some smaller, less complicated but good quality tweeters.

aftermarket speaker manufacturers definitely need to start
thinking about separating their cross overs for the woofer and
tweeter to make it easier for the typical weekend bolt-on guy
to install separates on their cars that have tweeters on the dash.
make it like a in-line crossover wireharness or something.
choke coil for the woofer line and capacitor for the tweeter line.

You'll want to use the aftermarket crossovers regardless. Not only will they probably be better quality, but they'll cross at a different frequency than the stock ones... the cross point made for those particular speakers.

The factory crossover is a capacitor that is factory attached to the tweeter. I'm assuming that they designed the tweeter and cap to work with the natural roll off of the door speakers.
I just added factory tweeters to my 09 Base. I assumed that the capacitor side of the tweeter was positive. I soldered wires onto the tweeter (after cutting away the plastic for the connector) and tapped into the harness behind the radio. The service manual looks like the positive side of the tweeter connects to the negative door speaker wire. This is what I did and I think it sounds good.
The tweeters are wired in parallel with the door speakers.

InterestingStuff - Pay me the S/H and I'll send you mine. I replaced my Sport dash tweeters with 7/8inch Pioneer TST110's and after some lite nip tuck around the grill glued in the TST's (they seat nicely, are 3/8inch larger than stock and have more magnetic mass). As for the wiring - I know that the dash speakers are in series with the front door speakers. So pull some wire (Stock is 22g) and find some narrow wire lugs to slip into the speakers - 'cause when I pulled the dash speakers the were lacking on extra wire and I cut my OEM connectors off at the nub. Sorry.

Thanks, and I'd take you up on it.. (I PM'ed ya..) but since you haven't been here since you first posted, and it's been a few months... I guess it won't happen anytime soon.
