Question about USB plug for Fit Sport

I want to install an aftermarket headunit into my Fit Sport without nav. I know I need the trim pieces and a dash kit for the OEM nav system and all, but my main concern is losing the ability to use the OEM USB plug in the glove box. Can I still use this with an aftermarket headunit?
How does it connect to the OEM headunit and how would I connect it to my aftermarket headunit? Via an aux. input, or is there no way to use it with an aftermarket headunit?

Unfortunately the original USB cable terminates at the original HU with some Honda proprietary connector, and when I checked on this last March no one had yet made an adapter so that the original USB cable could be used with an aftermarket HU. I suppose that there's a chance that this has changed since March, and so it might be worth a call to Crutchfield or Metra to see if there's now something on the market that will do this. In which case, please tell us. Otherwise, the aftermarket unit will come with its own USB cable, which you'll have to thread to the upper glovebox. You can remove the original USB cable by opening the lower glovebox as you would to replace the cabin air filter and then reaching up to the outside of the upper glovebox and pulling out the little rubber plug that holds the original cable in place. It's fairly easy to thread the new USB cable behind the dash and then through the opening created by removing this rubber plug. This arrangement has worked well for me since March.

If you get a headunit with a USB port on the rear of the unit you can route a usb cable just like the factory one. My iPod cable follows that route currently for my Alpine.

Sure thing. Btw, what HU are you installing? I learned the hard way that many are very limited in the number of files and folders they can handle via USB. It might be worth downloading from Crutchfield the detailed specs for the HU you're considering and making sure that it suits your needs before ordering.
