Help! Cheap OEM replacement, guide
Help! Cheap OEM replacement, guide
Hi all,
I've tried searching here/Google/Crutchfield with no luck but I'm sure this isn't the first time a complete beginner's asked this
. I don't like the way my 2011 Sport (no navi) sounds and I aim to replace the header unit. I listen to FM radio/MP3's and budget is <$150 for the unit.
I anticipate buying from Crutchfield.com and have never done audio (car or otherwise) work before.
What I'm looking for:
1) Suggestion on a header unit, <$150. All I use is USB stick for MP3 and FM radio.
2) Link to guides on how to replace a header including removing OEM trim, wiring, etc.
Thanks!

I just got a pretty nice JVC from Crutchfield for 229. They have stuff for 150ish, but I can't recommend anything.
What I can tell you is that whatever you order comes with a guide for tearing everything apart and putting it back together, trim replacement, and a wiring harness that solders to the harness the HU comes with, then plugs right into your car's harness. Don't cut any of your car's wires!
And get a panel tool, it's just a plastic tool that makes trim removal less of a pain than using a screwdriver or something.

- Buy brand names like Alpine, Kenwood, Clarion, JVC, Pioneer, Sony, etc. in that price range and you're good to go.
- Crutchfield does give you all the instructions (Master Sheets) and the necessary items to do the installation yourself. In regards to the wiring harness, traditionally it's plug n play with no soldering involved.
