12V power in the trunk

12V power in the trunk
I'm installing an Asteroid Smart in my '13 base fit and I got a TaoTronics license plate frame backup camera.
I'm hoping to find 12V DC somewhere in the trunk area to hookup the power lead to my backup camera. I'd like to be able to use it any time, not just when backing up so power that is on when the car is on would be great.
Right now I've got it powered off of the wires to the left backup light, but I seem to have done something wrong and it isn't working. When I turn on the headlights it tries to start the backup camera app and fails. I'm guessing I have the backup trigger wire hooked up wrong in the wiring harness. So I've got a lot to figure out, but a great first step would be finding an easy to access 12V source as far back as possible.

Followup question. Does anyone know if the wire simply labeled "reverse gear" from the Asteroid is looking for 12v or ground? I'm considering installing a switch or button instead of triggering it from the shifter or from a backup light circuit.

I got the camera working when the car is in reverse. The trick was to connect the postive wire to the positive wire on the backup light and the ground to the car body, not the ground on the backup light.
I'd still love to know about a 12v that doesn't require routing wire all the way to the front. Anyone?
