For the difference in price (which as far as I can tell from Amazon, Rock auto is around a dollar) I don't understand why you wouldn't just buy the Honda legit ATF. Aisin ATF DW1 isn't exactly Honda ATF anyway. Honda own the patent on the exact formula. Sure would be good peace of mind to just use what you're supposed to use.

I agree. If the alternatives were free and Honda compatible or maybe boosted your gas mileage by 20 MPG but otherwise why not use DW-1?

Agreed X3 ^ I've never understood the mindset that spends tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle, then wonders about or uses non-specified fluids in critical applications. Yep, just buy the DW-1 and move on.

There are probably 'good' alternatives for many things for the FIT and other vehicles. I'm not saying that this or that ATF won't work properly in the FIT. I just don't think that Honda's recommended DW-1 is extremely expensive or fatally flawed in doing the job it is designed to do. Plus you only need to change out every 30,000 - 60,000 miles, so that also keeps the expenses low. I just don't feel that there's a big need for me to spend a lot of time exploring / evaluating alternatives.

Good quality gasoline at a good price is a place to save some money. In 76,671 miles, I've use 2,526 gals at a cost of $7,763. 10% savings: Improved MPG, $ / gal, etc is real money.

I also wish they used less salt on the roads around here. Rust is eating our cars away no matter what. That would be a great problem to solve.

I think Honda Genuine ATF is possibly produced by Idemitsu . The Idemitsu H-Plus is about the same price as the Honda ATF at the dealer . Will likely get the H-PLUS . Can be purchased from NAPA , Autozone , AAP and Amazon .
