Coming up shortly, never soloed a clutch swap before so I wanted to ask, and i'll follow with the best write up I can do.
since its our only car, I think I'm gonna pick up a new flywheel too and get that balanced with the new exedy, that way i dont gotta add time getting the old one out and taking it to get resurfaced and balanced. Sound good?
Next up, I dont have the a "ring gear holder"
I've heard a well placed allen key will do.. Any info regarding the matter would be beneficial. the oem tool there was a couple hundred bucks..
i do have all associated tools besides the ring gear holder.
Any words for a first timer? Since the cross country move, I've been gathering rust. Not havin the foresight to stay outta trouble, so I'd appreciate whatever you've got.

So I'm not 100% on board with what a "ring gear holder" is. A tool to hold the flywheel still? Clutch alignment tool? In any event I'll link a pretty detailed video at the bottom. It's done on a euro-spec Fit but it's all the same as far as you are concerned. I'll also PM you a copy of the service manual for the Honda way.

I appreciate the tip! fond of the breaker bar idea. Trying to get as comfy as possible before beginning since its our only vehicle besides the bike, and it rains too much here in GA to rely on that. When things kick off I'll take lotsa pictures and all that.

If you've done a clutch change before on a Honda or really any FWD car, it's not much different. Even though I did a few things differently, the video shown here is pretty straight forward and I did mine recently with hand tools, jack, and jack stands in a small garage.
Speaking of hand tools, if you are using them, knock the axle nut loose FIRST with the car on the ground before doing anything. Don't remove it completely. You don't want to have the car in the air trying to fight it off by hand.
If you feel your bolts are rusty or will give you a hard time, use some rust penetrant spray of your choice ahead of time. I personally like using Seafoam's Deep Creep or Wurth Rost Off.
Hey thanks a ton. finally started this job, circumstances nearly identical to your own. I also did a little variation. Instead of removing the ball joints n tie rod ends I just unbolted the struts at the bottom (bolded to save any future readers some cash/labor resulting from ripped boots)
But. I screwed up a bit. Ripped one ABS sensor, wires right outta the sensor itself (if someone else goes this route.. free up those sensor wires by unclipping them and also unbolt the break line at it's teensy bracket), so its getting replaced.. rockauto saving me 80 bucks, dealer wants 200. And.. heres one I'm uncomfy with. removed the inner boots on the CV axels. thats.. how it wanted to come out when I gave it the tug. I'm gonna be cleaning the hell outta them and i i guess reloading them because OEM CV axels are about $700a piece . so I'll be checking the service manual to see exactly what that peanutbutter grease is in there. but uh. feelin pretty stupid. it can be saved!

I started the video... I'll finish it some other time... But thanks so much... My clutch has chatted sense day one. I need to tare it down and replace everything at one point. I have never done it myself and would love to try it myself.

Tried using a harbor freight tranny jack, did not go over well. I'll get into detail later, but would recommend taking the entire tranny mount off and not just the bracket that attaches to the tranny as the service manual directs.. Broke my speed sensor crushed my finger, wound up just lowering the tranny out by hand lying under it, having someone up top to look out for snags... it prolly weighs about.. 80lbs? Hard to say. did get the clutch and flywheel off
And compared the stocker to the Exedy clutch
(dual springs in the stock one, larger pad too, but i always felt that the stock clutch was too strong.. had to be real ginger engaging first from a stop), also weighed the stock flywheel vs the new Luk. Luk came in at 8/10ths of a pound lighter according to the bathroom scale, but take that with a cup of salt. its a bathroom scale. the stock one wasn't visibly worn at all.. no ridge from contact.
I screwed around trying allen key tricks and mini wrenches trying to keep the flywheel from spinning.. and i was successful, but for install i had a helper and instead did the breaker bar on the crank pulley while he torqued. If i had to solo it, id prolly try and hold said breaker bar with my legs or if it reached the ground.. that.
Will update more tomorrow. the suffering continues. barely even bleeding.
