Towing a 2009 Honda Fit 5-Speed - Pull Fuses???
Towing a 2009 Honda Fit 5-Speed - Pull Fuses???
The owner's manual says that for 'long distances' you must pull two fuses to keep the battery from discharging but no where does it give a definition of 'long distance'! I plan to tow my 2009 Sport behind my motorhome and would rather not fiddle with fuse removal. How far or how long can I tow it before the battery will significantly discharge??

Sure you can but then you need to reset the code on the radio/navigation or it won't work.
I did find that my ignition switch seems to have two different unlocked/accessory positions, the first of which does not operate the radio, etc. This may be the solution to my problem!

OK, now for an update - I have just determined that my ignition switch appears to have two ACC positions! The first one, after OFF, appears to unlock the steering but does not turn on the electrical circuits. The second one, after OFF, not only unlocks the steering, but also turns on the radio, cigarette lighter, etc. so if I leave the key in the first ACC while towing, I shouldn't have to remove any fuses, etc. Can anyone else please confirm this?? Sure would make life simpler!

So which two fuses do they recommend removing?
From page 239 of the 2009 Owner's Manual: "When towing your vehicle for long (not defined) periods, remove the 20A Accessory Socket and the 30A Radio fuses to reduce drain on battery. These fuses are located in the interior fuse box and are shown as number 13 and 61 below." No where do they define 'long periods'!
I have towed Toyotas for years and have never had a problem with the battery discharging so long as I turned the radio off prior to towing.
Unfortunately for Hondas, disconnecting the battery (or perhaps pulling the fuse) requires you to again enter the radio code every time that you reconnect. Not one of Honda's 'better ideas'!

Well it is not to difficult to enter 5 digits to reset radio. I just did mine.
Interesting my online manual skips page 239. But this is what I have in my shop manual.
Automatic Transmission ● Release the parking brake. ● Start the engine. ● Shift to D, then to N. ● Turn off the engine. ● Leave the ignition switch in ACCESSORY (I) so the steering wheel does not lock. ● Make sure the all accessories are turned off to minimize battery current draw. It is best to tow the vehicle no farther than 50 miles (80 km), and keep the vehicle speed below 35 mph (55 km/h).
This is for towing with all 4 wheels on ground
