I have an 09 honda fit sport automatic. I have recently swapped in oil pan and went for a test drive and the car stalled at a stop sign. The car started up and stalled seconds later. The car is in my driveway now. When the car is cold, it starts fine. After leaving it sit in park for 15 minutes the car will just sputter out and stall. If I give it more gas when it starts stalling I can keep the car running, but once I get off the car and the rpms drop to about 1000 rpm, the car sputters and dies. The car runs fine when cold, but when it warms up the car sputters and stalls. Anybody have an idea what the problem can be?

 

From your description, it sounds like it can't maintain itself near idle RPM speeds.

When it's cold, it usually runs a little higher RPM. Then, as it warms up at operating temperatures, it can usually lower the RPM and still run.

Check the spark plugs. A loose plug can allow enough air to get past to lose compression and fail to go through a proper combustion cycle.

 

Hah, this one should afford us both a few good guesses.
Why'd you change your oil pan and did you change any components with it? What did you remove to swap the pan out (if you went by the service manual, you can just say and I'll review the procedure)?

If the whole thing started after the job, we'll narrow it down :} The only fault i've seen kill a car after it warmed up is bad wiring (done by me!) although a tremendous vacuum leak could mess it up. Like leaving the breather hose disconnected from the valve cover. It's well hidden in the back by the firewall.

 

The oil pan threads were stripped while performing an oil change, so I installed a new pan. The problem was a crankcase position sensor that would fail when warmed up.

 

How'd you figure it out?? That's a neat fault (albeit a very frustrating one!)

 

Did it give a CKP DTC?
