Car jerks on cold start

Hi Guys, had my 2013 sports A/T for 3 weeks now. Very happy about my decision. One thing I noticed, every morning after turning on engine and putting it in drive, car jerks. Is this common? Weather has been cold last couple of weeks. Is this something I should be worried about? Car runs fine though and there is no jerk on warm start...

Appreciate your inputs....

Our transmissions do have a bit of jerkiness when they engage.

Some people (myself included) seem to be able to reduce the effect by holding the brake longer and slowly releasing it. Since the effect is less noticeable in warm weather, sometimes I don't get any jerk at all. Nothing to worry about, the transmission is fine.

I think it jerks when you put it in gear when the car is colder is because when you start the car in cold weather the engine runs faster because it is colder. It's an automatic thing that happens. After a few minutes the engine warms up and the RPM's slow down to normal. Your car is fine. This is the way it works.

Correct. Watch your tach. When cold it is around 1500-2000 and slowly falls back to 750 or so once warmed up. Just be careful the first few stops as you will not have any engine braking so will need a bit more brake pedal.

If you didn't wait thirty minutes you could afford more 420.

They do jerk when cold but the way around it is, when putting it in D, do not release the brake until the the transmission is fully engaged.

It's been dipping below zero here lately. I don't let the car warm up, though. I wait for the RPM's to just start to calm down (maybe 10 seconds?), put it in Sport mode, pop the shifter to 2nd and then let off the brake. I do it this way because driving off in 1st gear causes a lurch when shifting to 2nd on its own the first time when really cold.
