Drive shaft recall for 2007-2014 Fits

Anyone have more information on this?

Looks like a drive shaft recall is in order for 2007-2014 Honda Fits.

I read an article in the local newspaper mentioning recalls for Honda Fit axles. I called recalls.honda.com and spoke to a representative that said a current recall is being put together regarding the axle issue. The recall notices will be out by Feb 2021 for those Fits affected, and will be Vin. number specific. This recall does not affect all gen 1 & 2 cars according to her.

Be careful when letting them do the replacement. They did mine but after replacing the shafts, one of my ABS sensors no longer works. That will cost most of $500 at that same Honda dealer and they don't want to accept responsibility for the damage to the sensor.

I got my letter today (May 2021) that the replacement drive shafts are now at the dealer and I can call for the inspection.

Doesn't help if the axle already snapped and you used a non-Honda shop to have the axle replaced or did the replacement yourself. If your axle hasn't snapped they will inspect the axle and if it has rusted to the point that it will snap in two they will replace it. There's a rubber harmonic balancing ring on the axle that allows water to accumulate under it and slowly rust the axle so the cross-sectional area of the axle is reduced. Drive the FIT like your 90 year old grandma and it probably won't snap. Drive it like you stole and there's a pretty good chance that it will snap.

You can fix the ABS sensor for about 40.00 and 1 hour of your time.
