Recall?

My dealership just sent me this email:

Potential Recall Notification

Our records show that many local Honda models have recalls on them that have not yet been performed. Buena Park Honda would be happy to check your vehicle for recall or campaign eligibility and we will perform your Honda's recall, at no cost to you.

Is my Fit Sport 2009 affected by any recalls? Or is this just some ploy to get me back to the dealership so they can sell me more overpriced stuff?

"...recalls that have not yet been performed"

That doesn't even make sense.

Tell them to stop sending you spam.

Got me, but I would call them and find out. I am curious about this too.

By "recalls that have not been performed" I think they mean that Honda has issued recall messages, but people are still driving the cars around.

I've checked a couple sites (one of them is listed below) and it looks like the only recall on a 2009 Honda is for the Odyssey. It's possible they sent this out to all of their customers, not necessarily isolating Odyssey owners. But yeah, they stand to benefit from potentially selling you some other service by taking care of your recall (if you were an Odyssey owner).

The last recall on the Fit was for the 2008.

Recall ID # 07V549000 - AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Possibly a shallow ploy to get you into the dealership so they can say: "ok, no recalls needed, but you should get an air filter/oil change, tire balance etc..." dealers are desperate for any business right now so wouldnt be surprised

My friend (who drives a civic) got a letter like that here in Canada a while back, but the letter listed the vehicles that were affected. Neither his civic nor the fit was on that list.

Ding ding ding! This is why not all of us are getting this recall message - probably just the ones who bought from this dealer.

does it have a recall number or a campaign number??? i work for a chevy dealer and we send those out when there is a recall. i would just take it in with the letter that you got and decline everything else if you dont want it.

Ding ding we have a winner!

Nothing more than a shameless ploy to get you into the dealer to sell you something!

If there's a recall you should receive the letter directly from American Honda, not a dealer. Sounds like dealers trying to drum up business from those who "junk mail" the American Honda letters. Also, these letters from American Honda are generated from title or registration (I forget) transactions, so if you bought a used car you will get the letter.

Really a crappy way of doing business in my book, because it creates a false negative view of the cars they are still trying to sell. They should be trying to make you feel happy, not paranoid.

^ yea eiwoh316 is right. also, if you needed service for a recall, they would specifically tell you that you need it for your car and what it was for. it wouldn't be so ambiguous like the letter you received. a recall service shouldn't cost you anything other than time anyway, so i don't know why that dealership has to state that they'll perform the service at no charge.
