New airbag recall - are Fits affected?
New airbag recall - are Fits affected?
A lot of newsreports today about auto manufacturers expanding the recall to replace Takata airbags. Honda is one of the manufacturers named. However, specific models and years not named.
Are Honda Fits affected, as far as anyone knows?

I hope not. I'm importing my Fit to Canada in 2 weeks and I just had a valve spring Recall done (my parents never bothered with that recall back in 2010-2011). So another Recall will slow my importation process since I will have to fix it before importing to Canada. I'm a little struggling riding on buses 1.5h one way each day. Also winter here in Canada are coming soon, so I hope I will have my Fit here registered before Christmas.
However, on a serious note - airbags are crucial for safety, so I hope Fit is not affected.

I don't know about the 2009 Fit, but Fits broadly speaking have been mentioned previously.
BBC News - Honda and Nissan add to airbag recall
23 June 2014
Japanese carmakers Honda and Nissan have added 2.8 million vehicles to the recall they issued last year over a defect in passenger airbags. Honda is recalling two million vehicles and Nissan 755,000 cars globally.
The affected vehicles have a defective part which "could cause the airbag inflator to rupture and deploy the airbag abnormally in a crash".
The part was supplied by Takata Corp. Other firms, including Toyota, have also issued recalls due to the issue.
Earlier this month, Toyota added 650,000 cars - all in Japan - to its initial recall....
Honda said its latest recall affects at least 13 models, including the Fit (or Jazz in the UK), Stream, CRV and Civic.

They aren't on this (seemingly comprehensive) list. Maybe USDM Fits are not affected, but those destined for (some) other countries were affected?

NHTSA Issues Urgent Recall For Takata-Equipped Vehicles In Humid Climes - The Truth About Cars
Looks like years affected are from 2000-2007 (with only exception Honda Element up to 2011). So I would guess 2nd generation of Fit is not affected. As mentioned above by painterguy Fits are not on the list, but if another article is somewhat correct - then 1st generation of Fits could be potentially affected. Especially when Florida is mentioned (thus US models). Anyway I trust NHTSA and I think if they don't have Fits on the list - we should not worry yet.
Car owners might experience some uncertainty, however, in determining if their vehicle is equipped with the potentially dangerous air bags....
the regulatory agency has twice corrected the number of vehicles affected and admitted that a list it released Monday included some cars not equipped with Takata air bags while omitting others that have them. The agency urged people to use its website see if their cars are affected — but a feature allowing people to check for recalls by vehicle identification number malfunctioned Tuesday and still wasn't operational Wednesday morning.
