update edit: so it was actually the transmission! See later posts for details.
I recently blew the clutch on my '10 Fit, and snapped the axle in the process.
The clutch had been acting up. Scrapey noises, and something rattling around occasionally that stalled it out once or twice. But for some dumb reason I kept driving it. Well, while getting going in 1st from a stop light, in the middle of an intersection, suddenly: SLAM! The wheels lock up and tires squeal. Then it stalls out, and I roll it to the side. I tried starting it back up to see if I could limp it all the way out of the intersection. no go.
I haven't had time to do a tear down to see all what happened inside, but heres a nice picture of the outside carnage!

Reason: Update
Regardless of the clutch situation, the axle shouldn't have snapped like that. Honda recently announced a recall on the axles on a variety of vehicles (including yours) for inadequate corrosion protection: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-...aft-rust-risk/

yes, my theory is the clutch disc broke down and jammed up the shaft, locking up the wheels and stalling out the engine. I won't know for sure until I tear it down, but I have a few other projects in line first

I understand now. Keep us posted on how it works out.
I've owned the fit since 2012, bought it at ~25k miles. I'm fairly certain they are the original axles.
unfortunately, won't really be worthwhile to tow it to a dealer for the fix, when I will be doing the rest myself anyway.
The cost of towing for 1 or 2 new, OEM axles isn't worth it to you? A tow will be the same as 2 trash aftermarket axles. I'd do whatever I could to get free OEM axles out of it.
Oh wow, an impressive amount of damage. So do you think the transmission was the cause of this? Or did the clutch blow up first?
oh yeah I forgot to mention that. the transmission was definitely at fault. It was basically permanently fused in 4th gear.
The clutch was in fantastic shape. There were some gouges in the springs that seemed to line up with gouges in the flywheel bolts. I’m assuming that was a result of the failure, so I replaced that too just in case.
@punx45 Nice work, punx. So, your diagnosis of the failure was that your MT fluid level got low, or completely disappeared, and that lead to the transmission failure?
