Coil packs for 2009 Sport?

Coil packs for 2009 Sport?

I need to replace my spark plugs.

Having used NGK in the past I picked some up. A friend mentioned that I should think about replacing my ignition coils as well. Having already picked up NGK plugs I’ve been looking to snag NGK ignition coils; and I’ve had ZERO luck. I once found two and then they were gone.

Any recommendations on brands that are worthwhile but not gonna cost me an arm and a leg?

Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

OEM Honda coils are made by Hitachi. Part # IGC0073

Another good OE quality coil is Denso 6732312.

Go with the Hitachi. The other cheaper brands like Beck Arnley and Standard are significantly cheaper but also die quicker. Trust me, I've had to so the job twice on my GD because of cheap coils.

I know I'm late to the party but if you only have 50,000 miles on the car or you haven't experienced any ignition problems regardless of the miles, why change the coil packs?

I think a lot of people tend to replace coil packs prematurely on these car’s. But sometimes it’s the loose plugs that tend to plague some of these cars that lead to replacement. If you are not getting misfire codes I would leave them in place. Personally have 175k miles on my Fit with original coil packs. Getting to plugs and packs are not a straightforward replacement on these cars but it’s your money and time.

I AM getting misfire code; PO302, looking at coil replacement videos, but you think it could be a simple loose plug or wire? Not a daily driver anymore, about 140,000miles

Check simple things first. Loose plug or swap coil pack from cylinder 2 with another coil pack . If misfire moves to that cylinder then replace that coil pack. Also at mileage if it’s the original plugs suggest changing all of them anyway.

I always took it to the dealer for recommended service, whenever the little light came on, and whatever they reccomended, i did. It has 170k miles, so Im sure the plugs got replaced somewhere in there, I'll try switching a couple coils, can you think of any reason I couldn't leave the cowl parts off? Not going to need wipers in the near future, I cant. Thank you for your reply

Still have factory coils on my GE8 (09, 170k miles) w/o issue. Unless the coils are actually having problems I wouldn't bother changing them. Often people try to be prudent and 'replace parts while they're in there' and end up trading a higher quality OEM component for something lower quality. I did that with a Doorman rear main seal on my B2200 a long time ago and it started leaking 5 months later; never again lol.

Just a quick update, pulled the cowl off and sure enough, #2 (that's from the left when facing from the front right?) was just hand tight. Cleaned it up and put it back together and torqued. 300 miles so far and no codes. If I get to 500, gonna replace all the plugs (dealer says they never got changed by them) with a dab of Loctite, and call it a fix.

What are y'all using as a torque spec with coil packs? My records show 6 FT/LB (72 IN/LB) to 7 FT/LB, but I can't verify it anywhere. Thanks.

Thanks for posting your fix. Yes, you are correct about location of number 2 cylinder. Definitely with 170k miles replace your plugs.

New update: Tightened one plug (#2?) 344 miles, no codes. gonna replace all four plugs and call it good. The shop my daughter took it to wanted to change the Cat and coils, and charge her something like $1800 (cant find the estimate right now)

Plugs 2 and 3 commonly get loose over time. You are lucky they threw a code instead of just silently failing over time and then blowing out. Glad you got it sorted

The $1800 is mostly for the cat, although yes, coils are also not the cheapest. Be glad you don't have a german car :P
