2009 Honda Fit Instrument cluster - ODO &
Hi all - hoping to find some answers here. I have a 2009 Honda Fit w/approx 115k (kilometre) and the instrument cluster stopped working (along with AC and cruise control); it was diagnosed by a mechanic that the instrument cluster has gone bad.
I have two questions:
1) Is it possible to swap the Instrument cluster from another Honda fit (i.e. 2009-2013), and the odometer will remain the same? (I was told by one dealer service manager that it's "Plug and play" as far as replacement of the clusters, and another dealer said the odometer value is actually not in the cluster, but rather it is a value sent from somewhere else)
On the other hand - the mechanic who diagnosed it said it needs to be taken to a dealer, or specialist who has an HDS computer to reprogram it.
The read the service manual, and it also suggest the ODO value needs to be programmed using an HDS computer.
So I'm confused - does the Instrument cluster needs to be reprogrammed by a dealer? Or I can save $250 & just swap it myself (and it'll still have the current odometer value)?
2) At the same time of my instrument cluster going out of order, the AC and cruise control also stopped working. If I replace the gauge cluster, is it likely these two features will start working again?
Thanks in advance

You need the HDS software to retrieve existing ODO and to apply it to the replacement gauge cluster. But before firing the parts canon I reckon you need a third party diagnosis, especially if the original two are against another. Fuse #1 and #22 need to be checked while you're at it.
Thanks for the reply!
I'll definitely check fuse #1 & 22. Mechanic said the fuses were fine, but I'll give those specific ones a check. You may be right; before I drop money on the part (I found one used for ~$160 CAD, which is relatively inexpensive), I may want to get it diagnosed by another party.
I only had it diagnosed by an independent mechanic who removed the cluster & tried to get it working with his computer; he said the electronics in it were fried.

Same problem
I have a similar issue (posted in detail in another thread) gauge cluster problem and A/C (have not confirmed if the cruise works or not). At the dealer now for a diagnostic (local honda non-dealers advised to go to the dealer I suspect they do not have a HDS despite primarily working on Hondas and Acuras). If they come back and by chance say it is the gauge cluster I will replace it with a used one with different mileage and live with!
