REALLY weird problem on gas pedal.

Hi everyone,

Im having a real weird problem on the gas pedal. When I accelerate, if I turn on the headlights, I will lose power to the gas pedal as if I was not pressing down the pedal. If I turn the headlights off, it comes back. If I let go of the gas pedal and press it back, it goes ok again. Right now my break lights stays on (just realised that 10 mins ago). Does all that have something to do together? Thanks to everyone!

All I can tell you for tonight is that the throttle is electronic, and that I've never heard of this fault before.

If anything's been done recently involving the car's electrical system, I'd think about that first. This is just speculation so it don't carry any weight, but I gotta wonder if there's an issue with the charging circuit.

An easy thing to check would be the multi-pin connector that is right in line with your gas pedal. There is a chance that it could be partially unhooked.
If you stick your head under the dash....you will see it.

What I think is this: if your brake lights are always on, your brake switch might be maladjusted or malfunctioning, letting the car think the brake pedal is pressed. I read somewhere on here that the car computer will cut off gas if accelerator and brake are pressed together. This is what I would look into in the first place. And hope you don't drive with both feet on the pedals (gas & brake), as this could also cause the problem.

There is a shop manual in the stickies if you want to check/adjust your brake switch.
