my 2009 1.5 I've had for about 6 months now. When decelerating, when I lift off the gas to coast I notice I feel, what seems like a clutch popping in or out. And then sometimes I feel it again in acceleration.

​​​​​​Is that normal? This is my first CVT car. I've changed the CVT fluid per the Honda procedure with Honda CVT fluid about 2 months ago. I thought it had improved a little bit now it feels the same or worse.

CVT transmissions, per my experience with Nissan and Ford, are very sensitive regarding their fluid capacities. If the level isn't just right they can surge (delay, then rapid acceleration) or drop out when you try to accelerate quickly EX: leaving from a stop, attempting to overtake another vehicle in a lane change.

I would strongly recommend verifying the fluid level is exactly what it should be, following procedures to the letter. If this issue existed before you replaced the CVT fluid I would also recommend checking the transmission for leaks at mating surfaces as well as at the CV (axel) shaft seals.

If your issue persists after ensuring the fluid is at the correct level and leak-free, you may have a mechanical problem.

I can't speak to Honda's CVT transmission/s, but have had success remedying shift issues of surging/slipping/power dropout by switching vehicles over to Redline's appropriate fluid for the specific vehicle's transmission. Recommendations can be found on redlineoil's website should you desire something else to try before doing a repair. Can't say whether or not it would help in your case.
