Sorting out rear drum brake correct part numbers
Sorting out rear drum brake correct part numbers
Posting here just in case anyone can authoritatively clarify what I'm looking for for a Fit that I take care of but isn't mine.
Canada market, 2014 Fit LX, GE. This is where it always gets interesting with parts houses. In the US the 2014 Fit was EV only, and most parts places don't realize that this is only the case in the US, so they show me all the wrong parts or force me to all-EV. (Even look at the title of this forum - it shows GE through 2013) I think in some other areas of the world, 2014 Fits may have been the first of the GKs too. End of the day, I'm forever getting conflicting information from parts systems, and haven't found a true online Honda parts system (like realoem.com for BMW, or any number of Toyota vendors) which works with my VIN to give me a high degree of confidence that I'm getting the right thing. Any which do accept VINs tell me they can't find my VIN. Sometimes I tell the parts system I have a 2013 LX to be sure that it's both gasoline and GE generation.
The latest adventure is rear brakes. Lots of rust - planning to get EVERYTHING - drums, shoes, hardware, springs, self-adjusters, the works - and rebuild it all. Rockauto is one of the few places which realizes that the 2014 Fit was not an EV in Canada however I get different lists of parts when I ask for a 2014 1.5L vs 2013 1.5L. And, within that view, there is a subset of parts labelled "Rear; with 7-7/8 IN x 1-3/8 IN Brakes" with a very small set of options for shoes and drums with that notation compared to those without that notation.
Hondapartsnow.com (however much I can trust it when it can't find my VIN) says that the Honda pn is 42610-S5A-000 which Rockauto translates to these specially marked "7-7/8 IN x 1-3/8 IN Brakes" units. I believe I found one drum and one shoe set in stock with "7-7/8 IN x 1-3/8 IN Brakes" shown.
This car isn't in my garage, even if it was there's so much rust swell I'm not sure that a measurement would tell me anything concrete, and I don't want to order incorrect parts shipped from another country.
Any advice on how to confidently determine whether I require "7-7/8 IN x 1-3/8 IN Brakes" or any of the other numerous options?

1- Just order parts for a 2013 Fit. Always what I do...
2- Beware Rock Auto! Even if they say there a gasoline 2014 Fit in Canada, doesn't mean you'll get the right parts! I ordered brake pads in the past and didn't get the right thing. Ordered for a 2013 Fit, and got the right thing.
3- There is a canadian online Honda parts site: https://www.torontohondaparts.com/. Never ordered from them, but looked at their site many times!
Hope this helps!

I will check out the Canada site and see if it can help to confirm required part numbers. I need to sort out the proper set of parts for the rear drums pretty quickly.
Cheers!
So, torontohondaparts.com cannot decode my VIN. When I select a 2013 Fit LX it tells me there are no brake parts in their inventory.
I did find that honda-tech.com *COULD* decode my VIN and in the specifications section it states:Rear Brake Rotor Diam x Thickness7.9 in 7.9 min 7.9 max
If trustworthy, this points me towards the special notation "7-7/8 IN x 1-3/8 IN Brakes" being consistent what I need. Again, if trustworthy, after looking at most of the drums without the notation, the listed diameters are all over the place, including some at 7.9in even though they don't have the notation. What a pain in the butt. I could see the EV having different brakes from all the rest, but I was originally under the impression that it was basically discs on the sport and identical drums on all of the other sub-models.

I would have thought so. There are also brake shoes on the list with the special size notation...
