Driving with passenger side front seat removed?
Hello, I know this sounds crazy, but can you drive safely with the front passenger seat removed? I have a 2012 Honda Fit Sport manual transmission. I know there is a weight sensor and such that interfaces with the airbag deployment.
I have to haul a harp in a box and having the seat out will give me the room for it to fit.
I had a read about folks changing seats and that can of worms. There was something about re-calibrating the interface after messing with it. I don't want the drivers airbag disabled because I will be driving on the highway.
Thanks for and advice, warning, etc...

It's pretty easy to remove and reinstall the passenger seat. I've removed all the seats, carpet, and trim to install sound deadening materials. However, what I didn't do was hook up the battery or start the car when the interior was removed because I read that can lead to issues with the SRS system, which is exactly what you're worried about. Unfortunately I can't give you a definitive answer on what will happen if you drive the car, or after you reinstall the seat.
Before you dive deeper into this issue, did you measure to see if your box will fit across the car with the Magic Seat in the upright (I think the manual calls it "Tall") position? That would avoid any issues with the passenger seat or airbags, and probably be safer than hauling a large/bulky item in the passenger seat area.

Thanks for your response. I unfortunately need the length of the car for this instrument. It won't go sideways in the magic seat. I will have 5" clearance for packing, which is cutting it close. I plan on securing it for driving. Can't have it loose in case of needing to a quick maneuver...
