Broken Hood Bonnet Cable

Hey!

New here!

I have a 2009 Honda jazz/Fit. RHD in Australia

How can you open the front bonnet hood? The bonnet latch from inside the car does not have any tension. I removed the driver fender lining and felt the bonnet cable is loose and no tension. I believe the ball on the hood latch is not attached. I tried to insert a flat screwdriver or pry tool to move the black latch but no leverage or fee it is jam or spring is really tight.

Is there a way to open the bonnet?

Would removing the bumper give me access? There is a small gap to inbetween the hood to get the 4 plastic clip rivet

Thanks!

On my 2019 fit there is a sliding access door underneath the hood latch for such an occasion.

If there is something similar on your vehicle it would either be accessed by removing the front bumper or removing the splash guard from underneath the vehicle.

If you start with the splash guard see if you can get to it from below. Try the bumper next, since you have to remove the splash guard to remove the bumper anyways.

I hope that is helpful.

Here's a video that explains the replacement process of replacing the hood actuator cable on gen 2 Fits. It doesn't answer the question of how to initially release the hood, but it has a lot of useful information in it. I think I would start by taking the cable release handle off under the dash and then using vice grips to hold the cable and try pulling on it. That may do the trick and at least allow the hood to open to assess what's broken. I believe the guy in the video found his cable broken on both ends, Good luck with your fix:

Hi all,

thanks for info so far. Been searching for days.

i jacked up the car and remove some trims and saw the end of the cable with the ball dangling.

How do release the latch hook when the ball is not attached

The easiest way of releasing the hood with the cable detached from the hood release would probably be to get back under the car in the position you saw the cable detached. Use a combination of ratchet extensions and maybe a swivel on the end, if needed, to reach up and remove the two bolts that hold the u shaped bracket to the bottom of the hood that the hood release secures..
