Rear Bumper Repair

Hi all!

New to the Fit community, and have a quick question about the rear bumper. I've noticed the alignment seems to be a bit off on the bumper near the rear lights. The car is a 2013 UK Jazz SI in Orchid White

I've been able to get it somewhat flush, or at least better than it was. However, there's still a pretty big portion poking out. Anyone any ideas on how best to go about fixing this back to where it should be? It's apparent on both sides, but one side is significantly worse than the other, as I believe the car was reversed into something (pics attached)

I'm not super concerned about the paintwork as I'll be able to touch it up & it should buff out nicely - really don't want to replace the rear bumper but want to get it as nice as flush as possible. Would my best bet be to remove the bumper entirely and try to realign? Pushing back into place doesn't seem to hold it.

I'm guessing it's just not super well aligned out of factory, so I'm not looking to build a show car (as seen by the uncleanliness, it badly needs a wash!) - just something minor that's bugging me. Any advice would be much appreciated!

It looks like some of the bumper cover clips have popped loose. Did you bump something with that corner of the car?

You can just see one of the holes in your picture, which should fit to a matching "peg." With the proper manipulation of the bumper cover, you should be able to re-engage the clip, which will also fix the alignment issue along the rear fender.

The general movement you want to make when manipulating the corner of the bumper cover is down, in, and then up. Depending on how long it's been like this, there may be some "memory" in the plastic which might make the adjustment more difficult. I would wait until a sunny/warm day, as the warmer the plastic is the less likely it is to crack around the clip and the easier it will be to move.

If the alignment is off across a larger area of the bumper cover, it's not that difficult to remove, realign, and reattach. Again, much easier when the plastic is warm. I'm guessing there are Youtube videos showing how to do it, or you can check out the service manual. Here's the appropriate information from the US 2009-2012 service manual, which is probably similar but perhaps not an exact match to the procedure you would follow.

Thanks so much! I've tried manipulating the bumper around the clip and removed that half to try get it to fit, but there does seem to be some alignment issues with the clips themselves (bumper doesn't fit nicely with the corresponding screw hole in the wheel arch)

Will definitely give removing the bumper a go once the weather is a bit better (hopefully not too long but UK weather can be sketchy at times haha)

I bought the car only recently and was told they'd reversed into something thankfully not at high-speed. I reckon it's just pushed a bit too hard on the clips so hopefully it's just a case of removing and reattaching once I've seen the damage underneath the bumper cover

Will keep this thread updated on how I get on!

I highly suggest buying replacement clips. Things like that are almost impossible to get off without breaking clips and some are likely already broken.

Yeah, doesn’t look great. I removed most clips yesterday and managed to get some of the bumper aligned. However that corner is still poking out.

Looks like there’s some damage to the clip areas, bumper cover is a bit cracked & clips do look a bit worse for wear. Looking like the bumper cover might be causing a lot of the problem - it’s sitting into the top clip but it’s not “popping” or “clicking” fully into place.

Will give it another shot today to see if I can get it sorted
