All lights are working but not the high beam lights.on my Honda Jazz 2008 (GE2)

• Just changed the bulbs, no difference.
• Checked the relais by switching with another relais, no difference.
• Checked and changed the fuses, no difference

The high beam lights did work a week ago.
While I was driving with my high beam lights on in a really dark area, I did smell something burning inside the car.
Then the high beam stopped working.
All the other lights still work normally.
What could the problem?

 

Well if you've check all of that and you're sure it's none of the above time to replace the multifunction switch.

 

Disregard if this doesn't apply to GE2 Jazz... I'm in USA.

Do your DRLs work? I am pretty sure they are high beams at a reduced voltage.

 

There is no DRL in this model

 

I didn't tried it yet because I have to dismantle the steering wheel. I am a bit afraid about the airbag inside the steering wheel. Hope it won 't popout.

 

Do you have an owner's manual in the glovebox in your car? In US model GE8 cars, there is a diagram in the handbook that shows the fusebox layout of the car. In the second gen cars, at least, there are a total of 5 fuses for the headlights. Four of the fuses are 10 amp (#32R, #34L, #48L and 51R)- I believe these fuses protect the low beams and high beams individually. There is also a 20 amp fuse (#28) that just says headlight. You would have to check the handbook for your car and see what fuse locations these correspond to in the earlier gen cars. If all these fuses check out ok, then as Red 05 said in an earlier post here, it's probably the multifunction switch that is bad.

With a test light you can check all of these fuses without even pulling them out by probing the face of the fuses with the grounded test light.

 

I know what you mean. I don't have one so I pulled them out indiividually. As far as I can tell from the manual. There is one fuse which says "lights". In my case 10 ampère. There are 2 seperate ones under the hood, both 20 ampère. As far as I can tell there is no other fuse for the high beam.

I ordered a new switch. Delivery is over 3 weeks. Till then I wait before I dismantle the steering wheel.

 

Well, my new multifunction switch has arrived. I switched the plug from the old one into the new one, and.....the high beam s working !!
There is a small problem left. To slide in the new switch, you have to disassemble the steering wheel.
First the airbag has to go out. To do that job you have to unscrew 2 bolts on the steering wheel.
One bolt is out, but the other one is cracked up, because I used the wrong screwbit
It is a small screw so any ideas how to unscrew a cracked up screwhead ?
