2009 Fit w/79k

My starter makes a scratch/grind sound, especially when cold. Otherwise it works fine.
No matter how quickly I release the key, the sound persists.
It seems the same kind of sound that happens when you hold the key on start after the engine starts running, on other cars I've owned.
Is this a solenoid issue?
Is it common with Fits? I've not had this issue on other cars.
