Just bought a beater 2009

I just bought a Honda Fit base with 170k miles to replace my wrecked 2007 sport. What do you think of the health of the engine? Sounds like it may need a valve adjustment.

also, can you confirm that the oil fill quantity is 3.8 liters? My GD3 was 3.6 liters.

my first “mod” would be to get keyless entry. I’ve heard you need a FOB and to program it and that the necessary actuators are already there. Any chance I can just get a keychain fob for cheap or do I have to track down a key? I could just cut the key of of a junker key and use it as a fob.

thanks

Not sure about the engine noise, I will listen a little later but I can recommend these from Amazon for the keyfob. I have a 2009 and it's probably my favorite mod so far. The first link is simply the blank key, it has the actual working fob and it's pretty simple to program. The second link is if you don't want the metal key portion, just an empty case you can transfer the innards to.

I found the original post on this as well, if you scroll down to post #22 it has a nice picture of what it looks like. Again, I couldn't believe my base model had everything it needed to do this, I smile everytime I get out my keys

MTLian, I just noticed you are from Canada? That might be a sore spot as far as the keyless fob entry. Apparently Canadian models did not come with the actuators already installed. Refer to post #53 on this thread:https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ase-model.html

From what I understand, unless your fit is equipped with power locks, it won't work. (If it's a Canadian model).

Unfortunately I believe that's the case, unless you have power locks.

Congrats on the new car.

I have a USDM '13 Fit. My oil refill when I change out the oil and the filter is a smidge less than 4 quarts.

Can’t tell exactly where the ticking is coming from, but it does sound like rockers. Adjusting them isn’t a bad job, especially if you’ve done them on something else before.
Our GE Fit takes just over 3.5 quarts.

How serious is rocker adjustment? I’ve done valve lash. How involved is rocker adjustments?

Same thing, just different terminology. You’re changing the adjuster on the rocker to adjust the valve lash. Sorry for the confusion.

Belt, sparkplugs, ignition coils, clean the EGR valve and the passageways, seafoam through the brake booster vacuum line. Change the starter, battery, then work the rear shocks. I didn't get to the struts yet on my 09, but doing all the rest made my engine very quiet. Valve adjustment will also help, but more so everything else.
