The "You meet the nicest people" ad campaign was for the Honda 50 motorcycle starting in 1962;

A barebones Civic starts at $16k. For $17k or so, you can get a fully loaded Fit.

Doh! I should have guessed it. Saw some tv documentary which mentioned that ad campaign and completely forgot it was Honda (hence the Vespa reference).

I'm not worthy..

Cargo area, the Civic wasn't even in the running.

I need to transport photo and lighting equipment and refuse to buy a SUV. The only other car in the running was the Scion xD.

Secondary concerns were handling, MPG, and interior finish.

2009 = new Fit. I doubt if I would have bought a GD3 over the Civic... but the GE8 brought the Fit back into the same generation as the current Civic, similar looking gauges, USB audio, etc.

Add to that - its cheaper, has more cargo space, it was a no brainer at that point. I know its only a bit bigger than a GD3, but I don't know, the GD3 looked tiny to me and I don't have that impression with the GE8.

I really love hatchbacks - so versatile... I love the look of roof spoilers too. But the Civic hatch and the Subarus today are a bit of a waste with their more raked hatches.

Now if only they'd make a Fit Type R... damm, I know the fuel economy is gonna drop with a K20 underhood, but I can imagine a bunch of us lining up for one.

That was an easy decision for me. I'm 6'1" tall and the new Civic parking brake dug into the side of my knee. Plus the Fit is more fun to drive!

No hatch, no sale. I should've waited for that MS3 Grand Touring, though. I really like that car, and all-in, not *that* much more than a Fit Sport, and about the same price as an Si fully loaded.

i wanted a pickup, but i drive so many miles on the highway i couldn't justify it with $4 gas, and now after i have my fit i wouldn't want a truck anyways. as mentioned before, the car drives so much better than anything else in it's class, it reminds me a lot of a friends acura TL.

and also there's an intercooled ATI procharger with my Z06's name on it, so i figured i'd better get something tamer for the daily commute.

Two of my friends drive new civics, and though I was crazy about them when they first came out, that has passed after driving them. I think the Fit is more engaging.

And I think the GE8 looks way better too.

The Analogman,

I am 6'0" and had the exact same problem. I put 30k on my Civic in a year, and for many of those miles I wrapped the hand brake in a wool watch cap to keep it from digging into my right leg too far. Although it wasn't the final straw, it certainly helped make the decision easier.
